Booking "Day by Day"

I have seen this mentioned quite a few times and after reading another thread today realized that I probably don't really understand what is meant by this phrase.

I had been thinking that if I wanted a reservation for June 1-10, I should call on July 11 (assuming 11 month window) and then each day thereafter if any of my days wasn't available at that time.

However, now I'm thinking what is really meant is to call on July 2 for the first day, the 3rd for the next, and so on... is that right? If you do this can you add each day to the original reservation or are they separate?

I'm still trying to get my head around all of this booking window and banking/borrowing stuff before we finalize our purchase - thanks for your patience! :)

I am wondering exactly the same! Can somoeone explain please?! I want to change from SSR to BCV at 7 month window. Is this advisable to do day by day?

Hi.

I've been doing this now for next December.
In your case, on 2nd July, you tell member service that you're booking day by day, your actual checking out day is June 11th.

So, member service will understand you then they tell you they'll wait to mail your confirmation until you have all day you need to book.

On 3rd July, you tell member service that you want to add one more night, so they'll do that for you.

Hope this helps. Happy plannning!

I don't see the need for booking day-by-day at the 11 month window. There really isn't any problem getting your home resort at the 11 month window. Just wait until 11 months before your check-out day and make one call for your vacation. Saves everybody time.

I agree with a few exceptions:

1. Standard view rooms at the BWV
2. Guaranteed Boardwalk view rooms at the BWV
3. GV, Studios & 1 bedroom units at HHI for summer dates
4. GV at the BWV & Beach Cottages at VB
5. GV at OKW & SSR for certain times of the year.

I know from personal experience that if you don't call day by day at 11 months for the 1st two listed, you will have to waitlist for at least some of the days.

I was just using the 11 month window as an example so the dates made sense. I'm sure booking day by day is more of an issue if you're trying to book when the 7 month window opens up. I just wanted to make sure that I actually understood what the concept meant and how to do it when necessary. Thanks! :)

I usually only book day by day at the 7 month mark, depending what time of year we plan to go. In October, absolutely, in May, not necessary. However, since I own at BWV, I did call day by day at the 11 month mark for October because I wanted a standard view studio. The CMs said I was wise to do that because they were going quickly at the 11 month window. When I make my early February reservation, I usually call 7 months from my checkout date. Just keep in mind that there are busier times of year than others. Of course, all holidays, including Prez weekend. And during Oct/Nov/Dec -- points are lower and lots of activities in EPCOT, so the EPCOT resorts go quickly.

Now when is someone going to want DVC to "enforce" the rule that you can only make your ressie with one call at your checkout date? That this ties up CM's at MS, hence the long times on hold. Or we could combine the "renters" who spend a lot of time on the phone checking out studio availability for "insert busy time/holiday" at VWL, BCV or BWV.

I am just trying to be ahead of the curve(or Dumbo71) on this one! I'll be doing day by day for Spring break at VB in 2008(already have it marked in my planner).

Geez I even have marked down when to call for ADR's for Thanksgiving!(More applause for the DDP). DH refuses to eat at Trails' End again.

Where is that rule stated? One call only?

There isn't one that I know of, but someone will get their knickers twisted when waiting too long on hold one time will read something into the fine print. Then the lines will be drawn in the sand between "I never do it" and "it should be allowed" and everything in between.

Until I started reading some of these threads and have picked up "the tricks of the trade" so to speak, I didn't know you could call day by day. I thought you just called 7/11 months to your checkout day and rolled the dice.

Now DH wasn't too happy when our guide checked availability in late Nov for mid June dates we picked at HH. We got 3 nights, but would have been waitlisted for the other 2. From my more expierenced DVC'ers, I have learned not to be afraid of the waitlist and go auto, so you don't have to keep calling back.
