Booking cruise with points ??

If i book a cruise using my points and then have to cancel, would I be able to use those points in booking a roomVacation club resort. Im sure there would be some type of penalty and points lost.

No , once they become "reservation points, disney collection" you have to use them for the disney collection, and you must use them in the same use year that the cruise was allocated. They are not bankable.

I believe some unfortunate dvc members were booked on the cruise that was cancelled, and they could not get a refund, they had to use the points for disney hotels.

Points used to reserve non-DVC accommodations are in "reservation" status and if cancelled, may only be used for non-DVC reservations.

In the case of the cancelled cruise, DVC points were refunded/returned to normal status and could still be used for DVC resorts or banked - subject to normal banking rules. Those who used their points for that cruise were not penalized by the normal usage restrictions.

yes they were returned to us. However, with non-refundable airfare we needed to find a roof with less than 22hr notice! There was not much available being that it was Thanksgiving weekend. We had to go outside our DVC collection. It cost 1.5 times more to stay at Port Orleans French Quarter as it would have to stay at our "home" VWL.

We were also displaced 11/30 cruisers and yes, all of our points were returned to us. In addition, they were not returned to us as "Reservation Points" but went back to the original use-years and status they were when we booked the cruise. We even received a refund of the $75 booking fee. What we did with them after that was up to us. We chose to go to WDW that week and used our points at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Now we're looking forward to our '03 cruise (also booked w/points) and looking back on great memories of WDW in '02.

Michelemouse, what a very optomistic post! Glad you had such a great time. Its nice to know that DVC will bend the rules when needed.

I apologize for my mistaken reply, that is what I beleived happened to those points based on posts I had read.

I am greatly relieved to hear that DVC treated this issue so extremely fair. I was worried because if the events continued I thought I was going to be in the same predicament for my 2/1 magic cruise. I was prepared to splurge the points on the GF/C or something similar.

Hearing the truth, reaffirms my confidence in this company.
