Booking at a WDW resort on DVC points question

I am a little confused ... I called to book a stay at a WDW resort hotel using my points (the Contemporary) and they told me it was all booked. However, there are still rooms available on www.disneyworld.com. Is there only a certain alotment of rooms at these resorts that DVC members can book? It seems weird if that is the case. Just looking to clarify this for myself, so I will know for the future. I would have called earlier if I had known this. Thanks DVC members for your help.

Yes, they only allot a certain amount of rooms for DVC use and the rest are made available to the public.
