Booking an AP room with "intent to purchase"

I know that WDW allows guests to book an AP room with "intent to purchase" but does anyone know if they allow it with "intent to upgrade"? Esentially it is the same thing - I arrive at WDW, check-in to my resort, I have MYW passes purchased and intend to upgrade to an AP that day. Would WDW allow this?

I have always gotten the AP before. Upgrade before checkin, an ap rate is room only anyway, no tickets

I'm aware that the AP rate is room only.

I would like to buy my MYW pass here in Canada before I go to WDW as the Disney Store sells them at PAR with USD.

For me that means, I buy a 7 day MYW PH Non-expiring pass for $413CAD and then pay the difference ($86 US = $104CAD) and my AP costs a total of $517CAD as opposed to buying my AP online ($499USD = $603CAD)

I'd save $86! (It changes based on the exchange rate)

Don't know what to tell you but call and ask. Do you have the ticket prior to arrival or do you get it at checkin? Or can you just purchase the AP voucher in Canada?

Unfortunately Canadian Disney stores don't sell APs :sad2:

I just did some quick math...

I'm going to WDW for a total of 2 weeks this year and 12 of those days will be "park" days.

I would have to buy 1 3-day MYW $225.78USD and 1 9-day MYW PH WP+ $355.71 (one trip in May and another in Sept). That is $581.49USD in passes ($703CAD). So right there I save $100 buying the AP directly from disneyworld.com.

Secondly, the AP rate I have for May 30th - Jun 3rd (booked before my last AP expired) is $434 for 4 nights CSR Standard view. Rack rate is $843.75 so that is a savings of $409.75USD ($495CAD)

That means I've saved $585CAD! And that's with buying from disneyworld.com. What is another $86? Hmm....decisions, decisions LOL

I guess you will get the pass upon arrival. I would call and ask, can't hurt. Maybe as long as you check in, get the ticket, go upgrade and then show the front desk, but I wouldn't risk it since they can, I don't know how often it happens, charge the rack rate if you don't have the pass. Last May we had an AP rate and purchased the ticket just proir to check in. They never asked for the AP (to see it) but somehow they knew, maybe AP and reservations are linked with phone numbers. They asked for a phone number and I gave my cell since we weren't home. They did ask for the home number and that's the number we used when getting our APs. They knew we just picked them up somehow.

Its been done before. They may tell you to show them the AP before the next day or they may charge you full price and refund you when you get the AP but it has been done before

We are new AP holders and during three of our check in's we have never been asked for the AP pass itself. Of course we were ready to show the AP pass, but were simply never asked for it. It seems CM's don't usually check as i've heard of this same issue with others at multiple resorts. Your results may vary of course.

If you're gonna upgrade to AP's simply tell them you have an AP and then check in. If they ask for the AP simply go pick it up and they will give you the discount. Of course as long as you upgrade to an AP on the date of check in everything will be fine, however not upgrading and getting the rate would definetly be a no no.:upsidedow It will be up to the CM checking you in as to whether they are gonna want to see your AP and/or let you go upgrade prior to giving you the rate. Just make sure you get there prior to the ticket kiosks or the booths at DTD closing as I don't believe they can upgrade you at the resort.

Best of luck on your trip.
