I plan to purchase an AP for our upcoming summer trip (August). From what I understand, the AP rates will be available for August trips in late April. Do I need to have the AP voucher in hand when I make the reservation, or can I just show the AP voucher at check-in?

No you do not have to have the AP voucher in hand when making the reservation but you will need to have it when you check in.

technically you're supposed to have the fully activated AP when you check-in, not just a voucher, but your mileage will vary.

but as mentioned, you do not need the AP (or voucher) to book over the phone. the only thing the ap/voucher will get you is access to the passholder site. other than DDE (which can actually be done on site), i don't think anything AP related actually requires the AP to purchase.

i'd just as well buy the fully activated AP at the EarPort at OIA and save a trip/time.

I just had a stay at POP this past Feb. I had an existing AP, but my friends (who checked into a connecting room on a seperate AP reservation), purchased their AP's at the MK later that day and POP honored the AP rate. Maybe this was just the exception to the rule ?

Interesting that your friends were able to purchase an AP right at the POP. My friend wasn't able to do so (this was earlier this year), forcing us to make a short stop at the ticket booth of Animal Kingdom to buy the pass.

WDWPinCollector.....
Sorry...you responded before I edited my post.
I stand corrected....
POP allowed them to check in on the AP rate, but they had to go to the MK and purchase their AP's and then later show them to the front desk. But they were allowed to check-in first. They went to check-in, thinking they'd be allowed to purchase the AP's there, and told the CM this. The CM was very nice and let them check-in. I guess she made a notation on their reservation though.
Sorry for the misinformation initially.

AP rates aren't guaranteed to be available - last June I had to make do with a AAA rate, because the AP rate I was waiting for never materialized. Just be forwarned, so you won't be upset if you splurge for an AP and there's no advantage rate-wise.

When I checked in on Sat. March 17th at the Poly, the guy never even asked to see an AP or the voucher (which I HAD already ordered and paid for). I did think "Wow, I could have not even bothered to order this." But being the honest person that I am I would not really ever do this. I certainly wouldn't advocate trying it either.

Just wanted to share that it was never asked for and I still received the AP rate, which was $131 less than the rack rate. The only time someone did ask to see it was at a resturant where there was a lunch AP discount, and at the Wonderful World of Disney store in DD, to receive a 10% discount there.

They rarely have to ask at checkin - when you buy an AP (or voucher) you are in their computer and they know everything about you!

Just an FYI. For the past 3 years the August AP rates were released in May.

When you buy your Ap your info is put into Disney's computer. When you check in they can see it on the screen. When I cheked in I asked if they needed my AP. I was told no she could see on the computer that we both had one. That's probably why they don't always ask to see it.

The last few years, I've gotten mine thru the Disney store (didn't do the renewal) and all they gave me was a voucher. My personal info wasn't entered into Disney's system until I activated it at the park.
