Booking Air--now isn't this interesting

I went to USAir's web site to book my air for next year.

To make a long story short, in pricing out fares, my price came to $201.50. for one ticket on my flight. When I started over to actually purchase the tickets, I plugged in that I needed 5 tickets, and the price jumped to $379. per ticket

What's the deal with that?

Well, I bought 5 individual tickets...each with a different reservation number. Now I run the very probable risk of having our 5 seats spread out all around the plane.

I think I can link all the reservations together to avoid this. I'll have to call.

weird... but a good reminder to try all the possibilities (if you would have plugged in 5 from the beginning, you would never have known)

From my experience, there are always a certain amount of seats on any given flight that are priced differently/in a different class/type that have a letter assigned. When you went to price one ticket, you were probably given the $201 figure and that may have been the last one at that class/type.

Well, I did think of that, but I was able to buy 5 tickets at the $201.50 price as long as I bought one at a time.

Who knows?

But Doc is right...good think I didn't plug in all 5 at once first!

As soon as you get to your gate you can ask to have everyone sitting together, we have had to do that a few times in the past ...no problem. Thanks for the tip on checking prices however.
