Booking ADRs from Canada

So at the end of May, I'll be booking our ADRs for free dining. I keep hearing about 1+ hour waits on the phone and then the agent taking 30+ minutes to book their reservations. Has anyone recently booked ADRs? What was your experience? Any Tips on how to get through quickly - I really don't want to pay for a 1 hour+ long distance charge! Thanks, Jo

you'd think with all the money disney makes they could afford a toll free number.....:confused3:rolleyes1

A long call is not much fun but there are lots of cheap options for long distance. If you check if your phone carrier has a long distance plan, even if you only sign up for a month it might be worth it. It might be worth signing up to Skype. I've never tried but when you download Skype it shows that you can call regular phones for free.

Maybe worth a try to save $$$

I recently booked all my ADRs for our trip next Saturday back in February. I called exactly 90 days in advance at 7:00am, right when they open. I waited about 2 minutes for a reservation agent to pick up. It then took about 10 minutes to secure all the ADRs I was looking for.

If you are worried about the time you will spend on the phone, be sure you know what you want BEFORE you call so you aren't wasting time humming and hawing over different choices you haven't made up your mind on. Also, try to call as early in the morning (or late at night) as possible. The busiest time of day for the dining reservations are between 11am to 3pm (or so I've heard)

Skype is a good idea but I do not believe calls are free anymore.... at least international calls are not. Skype offers a pay-as-you-go or monthly unlimited call rates. Here's their website for more information www.skype.com

Did you book through a TA? They have toll free numbers and can do the ADR's for you. Just give them a 2nd and maybe 3rd choice for where you wish to eat on what night?

I'm a TA and we don't have toll free numbers!

Buy a PC phone card 4cents a min use this to make your adrs and then use the remaining balance while at WDW this is what i did for my trip last January total cost to make ADR's was under $3

I have always called first thing and got thru no problem..no waits and done quick..I have my list ready with alternates in case something is not available. As well when I have had to call back for changes at random times of the day I have never waited.

It was a real pain initially when they switched over to the new reservation system in March but it appears to be running much smoother now. I was one of the unfortunate ones who got stuck on the first day of the new system. It took 2 hours until they picked up the call. I was late for work but it was worth it. Since then, I've called in at 7 a.m. sharp (from Canada) and it's been very smooth.

Just listen for the prompts when it asks if you are trying to book during a specific period since you will be booking on the new ADR system. Also, have your resort/vacation confirmation number handy. They require it now with the new system.

The longest I've waited is 10 minutes....and I've changed my ADR's a number of times in the past weeks....just wish the wife could make up her mind....lol.

Go to your nearest Lotto kiosk or convenience store and ask for a calling card called SIFA. I have used that card multiple times, and have gotten great long distance mileage out of it.

We are going in 20 days, and I made all our ADR's 180 days (for certain restaurants) and then 90 days for the rest, and the longest I waited was about 20-25 minutes. I would just put it on speaker phone and do what I had to do in the kitchen. All my ADR's are made though. Let's hope all goes well.....

Can't wait to go!

At cloncom.com you can buy phone cards and they're pretty cheap. You can select the best card for calling USA from Canada. You can probably find a card that you can use at Disney World when you decide to call back to Canada from your room.
Caution some of the cards have like a "99c per week" fee that is deducted from your card balance, these cards may look like the least expensive choice but better to find one that has no service charges monthly.

I also called at 7:00 at my 90 day mark in March. I was on the phone for about 40 minutes, with a two minute wait time. I have a LD plan, but also use a CICI card when I'm out. It's very reasonable and available at lots of places including on line. Good Luck!

Call the 1-800-438-9876 (WDW reservations #) and ask them to transfer you to dining. I have done this in the past but haven't since '07 so I am not sure if you can still do this. Try it and see.

That would be for Disneyland Resort in Paris.

Register yourself on Disney Travel Agents website and you can have access to them.:thumbsup2

Thank you for that Polynesianfan! No more long distance for me! My only question is: Do we need to pretend that we're booking for one of our clients or can we book for ourselves as well?

You can book for yourself also..last time I booked mine I wondered if perhaps they didn't know I was a TA but at the end they thanked me for my bookings with Disney so I guess they do- despite all the press this for that and press that for this getting through to Dining.
