Booking across UYs

We have an August UY and due to my work travel late July into August across two UYs. This is good and bad because we can use 4 years of our VGF points as we stay there over the change.

However, I'm currently booking August 2021 (all points can be cancelled and used July 2022 if i need to) but I don't want to book July 2021 until later possibly even at 7 months. However I need to borrow 2021 points to do this.

I have had to create a dummy reservation for enough 2021 points to be able to borrow later to book the July part so that the system allows me to borrow 2022 points when I make my August reservation. Surely there is an easier way to keep points in your UY and borrow from the next when making a reservation.

Not AFAIK. System is programmed to use banked and then current before borrowing. That's almost always the best way to keep points from expiring before use and it's really quite rare for someone to want to do what you are doing.

Unfortunately, there is not. You can not borrow points except to complete a reservation that needs them,

Banked and current UY points for the UY of the trip must be used first before one can borrow.
