So, I have a question. When booking a room only reservation, is it possible to go ahead and book it for say, 8 days and then once it gets a little closer if our budget won't allow for all 8 days, call and have them take off a day or two from the reservation? The trip won't be until April and we would know by around December if we will be able to go the full length or not.

I wouldn't lose any money doing it this way, would I? Would they have to make an entirely new reservation or just adjust the existing one?

That is fine. I always end up changing our room only reservations. I actually need to call them this week for changes to our trip next month.

There is no problem with a room-only. And you have up until six days from arrival to make changes or cancel without penalty.
