Can anyone tell me just how difficult it is to book (get) a Grand Villa? We're thinking of having extended family join us on an upcoming trip.

For that matter, what is the most difficult (size) villa to book?

Thanks!! :)

It depends on which resort you are looking at and which resort is your home resort. We had no trouble booking an OKW GV for a week in October, but we are members there. OKW and SSR have the most GVs so those will be the easiest to get, although if you do not own there you'll have to take a chance at the 7-month mark. I believe there are only 6 at the BWV and the BCV & VWL don't have any. I'm not sure if AKV has any in Jambo House but they will have some in Kidani Village when it opens. If you own at AKV (which your signature suggests) you'll have the best chance getting one there at the 11-month mark.

The GVs are definitely the most difficult size to book. At HHI it can also be difficult to get a Studio or 1BR, particularly in the summer months, as that resort does not have many of either size.

Thanks so much . I was able to secure a GV for our stay next May just this morning. I really appreciate the info.!

Where did you get your GV and what were the dates, if you dont mind me asking. We are hoping to get a GV at BWV of AKV at the 7 month window. so any info would be great.
Thanks
steve

Unfortunately, you are not going to get a BWV GV at seven months. There are only about five or six of them and they go very fast. I'd think AKV might be almost as difficult to get. Except maybe for a weekend (Fri and Sat nights).

There is at least one in Jambo House, if not 2 (I think there are at least 2) - I haven't stayed in one, but my guide was telling me about a party she attended in it over Super Bowl weekend that a friend of hers hosted... plus you can see it online in the virtual tour on the DVC site (the regular one, I'm not sure about the member portion). The Jambo one(s) are single story, and have a billiard room (complete with pool table) in it - whereas the Kidani ones will be 2 story, with no pool room/table.

We're hoping to utilize an AKV GV in Jan 2010 with my folks and brother coming along. Good luck to you.

Last May I was able to get a BWV GV at the 7 month mark. I did the day by day thing and did not have any issues. Not sure if the new booking policy will be an issue.
Good luck.

Last year I called at the 7 months to see about getting a GV for spring break. I had to wait until the 7 month mark because we were pooling our points from 3 different home resorts. At the time I had a 2 BR and studio booked at BWV as a back up. I didn't think anything would be available since we going Easter week, but was offered a GV at both SSR and AKV. We took SSR and loved it!

As soon as we joined DVC in March 2008 and we had the points available, I went ahead and got a Grand Villa at Saratoga Dec 13-19, 08.
We have invited our entire family on both sides.
I love the fact Disney has this size room. Most of our family members either have never been to Disneyworld or have many years ago and think it is WAY to expensive. We are trying to give our family a way to experience something our family enjoys doing 3 times a year. All they have to pay for are their tickets and whatnots and some groceries.
When My DH and I took the tour for the DVC, we looked at our host and each other and thought we were stupid for not doing it sooner. We have 3kids and spent on average 2000 on a room for our time there 3 times a year(we have seasonal passes).
We Love Disney. Our family thinks we are nuts but we (the 5 of us) stay close because of this passion for a MOUSE
.

We're so worried about getting a GV at BW that we've booked day-by-day at the 11 month mark! Maybe it's not necessary. But I was too worried not to do it!

And the GVs are awesome! Congratulations!
