I read a thread yesterday which said that because I am doing a split stay (4 nights BWV, 4 nights AKV), I won't be able to book 180+8, I will only be able to book 180+4, and then have to call again in 4 days. At that point, all of the hard to get restaurants will be booked up.

To me, this is the most ludicrous policy Disney could have. They can see that I'm staying 8 days. BOOK THE FREAKING ADR's.

But I digress.

Can I book a 2nd room, through Disney, for the same 8 days, make my ADRs for the whole trip, and then cancel the room without any charge - thus keeping my ADR's.

Maybe that's frowned upon for skirting around the system - but it seems ridiculous that I couldn't book my whole trip simply because we are trying 2 different resorts.

Thoughts?

We have done numerous split stays and we have always booked our meals at our 180+10 window without any problems for our entire stay...especially since you are doing an 8 day stay, by the time you are making meals for the second resort, you will be able to book for the rest of your stay still using the 180+10 method. I have never heard of the way that you just explained (I may have to go and read the thread that you are talking about), so I could be wrong but I know I have been able to do it myself the normal way. As for booking the extra room, if you do book it, it will be under a new reservation number so any ADRs that you make under that new reservation could be lost after you cancel your second room reservation because they are booked under the room reservation number, again I could be wrong about this too (this is what I have always thought would happen though) so hopefully someone will come along and steer you in the right direction.

If the ADR's are there to book for someone just starting there stay when your second ressie starts, you should have the same opportunity to get them as with your first ressie. + 10 was meant to avoid having to call every day to get ressies for your trip, not give you an advantage getting ressies, if that were the case those with +10 coming in before you would mean you wouldn't get your ADRs the first day of your first resort 180 mark. If you make your second ressie ADR's right when they are book able, I think you would have just as good a chance of getting them as you would by the time you could get to doing them after your first ressie ADRs are booked since it does take time to book each one and others are booking also.

If you call in, many CM's will allow you to book for both stays as they will be able to see both reservations. You would not be able to do it online as the system will see two check in days. Contrary to the PP's post, ADR's are not linked to resort reservations, so if you happen to cancel a resort reservation, your ADR's do not go away. However, you cannot hold multiple resort reservations for the same dates. You run the risk of disney canceling all of your resort reservations if you do this. Your best bet is to call in for your ADR's. If the CM can't or won't do it, ask for a supervisor and see if they will override the system for you.

You are right it is wrong. Unfortunately doing what you are proposing doing is why Disney changed it. I feel bad for you but from what I have heard there is no longer the plus 10 for split stays.

As of a few weeks ago, they absolutely 100% can not book 180+10 for split stays. It has never been like this our previous trips but it is like that now. I spoke with 2 managers and different cast members and they just dont have the ability to do this anymore for split stays. It stinks but it is what it is. I was able to get all my ADRs except BOG for fall 2015 trip. Good luck OP!

It is worth a try. Let us know if it works.

If you really want the hard to get reservations, then give it a try. You don't even have to use your name on the reservation, but having it linked to your MDE would be enough. My mom's reservation started before ours and overlaps ours. I called in on her 180day and booked dining for all of us. Since I manage her reservations, everything is on my account.

It is not really 180+10 but 180+length of stay (up to 10 days).

It does not hurt to call, but I would not bother with a fake room just for a few days.

I tried to call this morning. I check in on 11/8 at AKL and then I check into the Poly on 11/11. I was not allowed to book anything later than 11/11 (because 11/11 is the check out day from AKL).

I explained to the CM and his supervisor that I have never heard of this being a rule, and asked if it was new, and they both said that the system physically will not allow them to book a reservation for 11/12-11/14 because my stay is not covered by those dates. So I explained the 180+10 rule and asked why it did not apply. I'm over it now since there's nothing I can do about it, but I was pretty mad that I waited 90 minutes on hold this morning (what even..) only to hear that I can't book the second half of my stay. She insisted that this has been the policy for some time now (but then she didn't know that you could make a lunch ADR at Be Our Guest), so I took it with a grain of salt lol.

It's a relatively new rule. I wasn't able to book both parts of my split stay at 180+10 back in December, even though I called and spoke to multiple agents.
I agree that it must be new. I WAS able to book the +10 for my split stay when I made reservations in December...just one more reason I'm glad that we are NOT planning WDW for next year's vacation!

This is 90% of the reason why we aren't doing split stays anymore. It sucks because it was fun being able to stay at multiple resorts but we need certain dining more than we need to stay at two places. It's dumb that the online system doesn't see that though.

Ugh, I was afraid this was going to happen to you :sad2: Hope you get what you want when you call back in a few days!

Thanks for setting me straight on the whole ADRs are not linked to the resort reservation, I had always thought that before...now I know :goodvibes.

As for this new rule about split stays, I am glad I heard it from here from those of you that have already experienced this so for the next time we plan on doing a split stay I won't be too surprised that the system won't let me make all of my ADRs.

So, as Vernie822 confirmed, I will NOT be able to book all 8 days on my trip, at my 180 day mark of the first reservation.

So, my question is, is there any reason I shouldn't just book a dummy room for the whole length of my stay. Then, when I get to my 180 day mark, I can now book my WHOLE STAY instead of only my first 4 days. Then, cancel that reservation.

It's more work, and it sucks that Disney has changed their rules to make it this way, but I absolutely don't feel like I'm cheating the system - it's their glitch that makes it so my split stay doesn't allow me to book my whole 8 days at the 180 mark.

But, if I don't do it - I certainly won't get BOG and likely not a great time for Ohana at 180+4. May have trouble with others too, the way things are looking right now!

You risk it being cancelled if Disney finds out that you're booking two resorts for the same time but if it's under a different email, and another member of your party's name, you should be fine since it's highly unlikely they'll find out.

I know this is an old thread, but I have this exact same question. If you cancel the second room you’re ADRs stay made, right?

I wouldn't cancel it until after you could have booked the ADRs anyway. That is, if your split stay is 5 days and 5 days I would wait until you could have booked the last portion of the stay.

Just as a note, I believe that the split stay rule has been in effect for quite a while. I could not book all the way through for my split stay for Marathon weekend 2017, and I want to say that I couldn't book for both halves of my stay in 2015 either. My memory may be fuzzy on the 2015 one, though.
