I just booked a wishes cruise for our trip during President's Week. I am a little confused by the new rules.
When I booked I was asked how many were in my party. If I want to add anyone I need to call to see if there is space available. If someone else calls asking for reservations at the same time they may be added to the boat.
I haven't read anywhere about this practice.
Anyone else book recently with the same information?

I don't think so. When I booked an Illumination cruise for Dec 10th, I was also asked for the number of people who would be on the cruise and told the CM that at the moment it was just me and my mom, but I'd probably be adding more people later. He said no problem, but to be sure and call back 14 days prior to the cruise with our exact number as they'll need to make sure there's enough life vests and snacks. The CM said the cruise was $250.00 (with tax) and was ours reguardless of how many people we had. He also made a point of saying if it stayed just me and my mom, that was OK too. We'd just have private cruise, but it'd still be $250.00. I called WDWPLAY a few weeks ago to tell them we would have ten people afterall and the CM said that was fine and he'd write it down, but I'd still need to call on Nov 26 (14 days out) to reverify the time and number (just in case the time for Illuminations or our numbers changed), so I'll be calling tomorrow (on the 26th)as instructed. Most people on the DIS book the cruises, planning to add fellow DIS's later. How could they do that if Disney is also adding people? Also what about the couple who want a romantic cruise alone? Besides I was told when I gave them my credit card number that if I didn't show up it would be billed for $250.00. I'll be calling tomorrow to reverify our departure time and numbers, so will ask if there's been anymore policy changes.

Didn't they just go up on the prices and decrease the number of people alllowed from twelve to ten in like October? I can't see them making more changes this soon.

the biggest reason for asking how many are in your party is because there are three sizes of boats, now. There are 8, 10, and 12 passenger boats. There are more 8 passenger boats than any other size. Most of the Wishes cruises have 8 passenger boats; unless, you specify for a bigger one. The 12 passenger boats go very fast and are hard to get. They are used at times for premium package guests, now. One of their perks is to have a cruise of fireworks. I hope this helps. I would certainly go for the biggest boat possible. In most instances that will be 10.

I just called to reverify our numbers and departure time for our Dec 10th cruise. While I had the CM on the phone I asked him if the rules had changed and if Disney would add people to a cruise that wasn't full. He said not that he knew of, that whoever booked the cruises had the boats and could have as many (up to ten) or as few passengers as they wanted.

I recall reading that if you reserve a boat it's yours, but if you have a cruise as part of a vacation package, you may have to share. Is that correct? If so, perhaps that's where some confusion enters the issue?
