Booked trip late - need restaurant help!

Hi everyone, I'm new to the boards: heading to DW in a few days (will be there Dec.7-14) and as we booked our trip only a few months back, it's too late to book for Chef Mickey's, etc - I tried. That said, kids are boy (13) and girl (9) and they're a bit past the whole 'character' thing so that's a real big deal to us. However we'd really like at least one nice buffet, pref breakfast or dinner, while we're at the 'World. We're staying at the Doubletree Guest Suites, near Downtown Disney.
So, questions:
- does the new TRex restaurant in DD require reservations?
- are there any good buffets that tend to NOT be too booked, even at this late stage?
- other thoughts/recommendations?
It's tough because we don't want to interrupt our touring too much, for the sake of a meal, yet a special one would be nice....
thanks in advance,
John

TRex is not accepting ADR's currently - it's walk up for now.

Try Biergarten. We've always gotten in there without advance ADR's. The food and entertainment is great!

Check out the December trade/wanted/cancellation thread. Many DISers have been able to snag last minute cancellations.

Enjoy you're trip! We'll be there the 6th-14th!

Call WDWDINE and ask. Buffets you might have luck with are the ones in resorts like Whispering Canyon Cafe or Cape May Buffet.

just tell them what your dates are and what times you are willing to go and see what the WDWDINE has to offer....may be nothing or you may hit the jackpot....

We'll be there about the same time, 9-16, and ran into the same problems. I didn't plan early enough.

We did make res for the storybook princess lunch in Norway for my girls and I.

We also made lunch res at Tusker House in AK. They have a buffet that seems to have good reviews. Also, if you book a lunch res there, you get reserved seating at the Nemo show.

1900 Park Fair at Grand Floridian is great for breakfast, besides Chef Mickey's it has the largest selection. To see menus click on WDWinfo at the top of the screen and scroll down on the left side you will see restaurant menus. It always helps me. Free Dining with the Disney Visa is what booked up the restaurants is my guess. Good luck. Oh it is a character breakfast. Tigger, Alice, Mad Hatter but they are very good and come by a few times.

We went to Cape May last week and it has a wonderful spread of food. Minnie, Goofy, Donald all in beach wear.

Trail's End isn't a character meal, but it's a decent buffet for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and probably the cheapest on site. It also seemed to be only about 2/3 full so should be relatively easy to get reservations.

Also...even with the "impossible" to get into places.......ask about off times. We were at Chef Mickey's on Nov 18 at 11:20am, and the entire meal there were three tables near us that never had a person sitting at them. We had a yogurt as we headed to the park to tide us over and were hungry but not starving at 11, so it was doable for us.

T-Rex does not take reservations.

I recommend Boma for a great breakfast or dinner buffet.

Boma is a great buffet. I also like Spoodles for breakfast. The entrees are reasonably priced, and they have a great all-you-can eat deal too, for less than you're paying for most any other AYCE on property.
