Hi - we booked a room only discount for august for 7 nights. We want to do disney for 4 days and Universal for 3 days. We got discount tickets for the parks from my work program.
Can I add dinning for 4 nights to the room only date? How much would that be?
Or do I have to get tickets and dining? Or do I have to get it for our entire stay?

Thanks so much for your help!!!

No, you would have to get at least a 1 day ticket. The only exceptions to getting the dining plan without tickets are AP holders and DVC members on points. Neither get free dining.

You would also be required to get dining for all 7 nights. It sounds like your situation is best dealt with by paying OOP for your meals. Have a great vacation!

Actually...it depends. Are you military? If you booked military room only you CAN add any dining plan to your room without tickets, but I think it's the only exception.

A dining plan may only be added to a vacation package. The only packages that do not include tickets are for passholders and military. Other packages require at least a one day basic ticket to purchase a dining plan. In the case of a dining promotion there must be at least a two day basic ticket.
Packages require a $200 deposit with the balance due at 45 days prior to check in.

With much of your trip being off-property it does not make a lot of sense for you to have to run back to Disney for your meals. Paying OOP is probably your best option.

No one starves at Disney without a dining plan. ;-)

I am booked in a room only discount through military. i am planning to buy my passes through undercover tourist, though, as it will be cheaper. Will buy them today as prices are going up tomorrow. Does anyone know if i can still add dining plan if i get my passes through a discounter, but have room booked through military? thank so much for any help you can give!

Stop. Do not buy your tickets through Undercover Tourist. Unless you are only going to one park, one day at Disney World, there is no cheaper ticket option than a $138 4 Day Park Hopper bought via your base or at Shades of Green across from the Polynesian.

It doesn't matter where you get your tickets from, you can still add military dining to your military room only reservation. But it makes zero sense to buy from UT with the Military Salute tickets available. Huge waste of money.

jaz0308: you need to book a military package with dining, and purchase tix through SoG.

Thanks for the response. I actually bought tickets because I wanted a 7 day pass and it was cheaper to buy the 7 day pass than get the military 4 day and add a 3 day pass (crazy, I know!) I did end up calling disney and they told me i could book the miltary rate plus dining so thanks, you guys were right!

No, you can not purchase the Disney Dining Plan separately. You must be staying at a Disney owned property and must book a Magic Your Way package which includes resort, tickets and dining to participate in the Disney Dining Plan.

No, sorry you can't. To participate in the Disney Dining Plan, you must book a Magic Your Way Package that includes resort, tickets and the dining plan. The number of credits on your dining plan is based on the number of nights you are staying at your resort.

I do want to say, that last December we booked for 8 nights and did 6 days at Disney and 2 days at Universal. We were booked under the free dining plan, so on the 2 Universal days, we used our counter service credit for breakfast at the resort before we drove to Universial and then used our table service credit for a late dinner that evening after we left Universial. It actaully worked out great, so you can make it work if you have a dining package at Disney and are visting Universal for a few days. Of course, you have already bought separate tickets, you it won't apply for your upcoming trip, but just something to keep in mind for the future.

Can I ask why you didn't just buy 2 sets 4-Day Military Salute tickets and activate them back to back? That would have been way cheaper than the 7 day pass, and is totally "Disney" legal. You still paid more via Undercover Tourist than you should have.

Yes she can, if she booked a military room only she can absolutely add the military dining plan. She doesn't have to buy a Magic Your Way package. We've done it three trips in a row.

Not if they didn't need PHs.

You're confusing the original poster (mom2dina) with a subsequent poster. The OP never said a word about the military. She's getting her discounted tickets through her 'work program'. jaz0308 is the poster in the military/eligible for deeply discounted military tickets.

No, I didn't confuse the OP with the PP. PrincessTiffany, who I quoted had given that response to jaz in reference to the military discount. The OP, of course, would not be eligible to add dining to a room only if she hadn't booked under a military discount. I wasn't confused.
