I booked the whole package thru AAA.
7 nights at POR, 8 day park hopper, DDP.
Now I am thinking it will be better to get AP.

Does anyone know if I can change my ressie thru AAA to room only now?
Do I add dining when I get there??

I'm not sure what forum to post this in, any help would be great!
Thank you

I don't know about changing the ressie thru AAA but when we had a AAA package just like you for the trip. Midway thru the trip we upgraded our tickets to annual passes at the MK customer service. Make sure that you use the tickets first because customer service will then create the gate price of your tickets towards your annual pass and not what you paid for the tickets thru AAA which is less. You really wind up with a discounted annual pass ticket. Worked great for us. Good Luck!

So are you saying I should wait until I get to Disney, use our tickets as they are now (thru AAA) then while we are there convert them to Annual passes?
I didn't think of that

I thought you were talking about getting the discount resort rate for AP holders - not timing of when to upgrade tix from daily to AP. You do get a discount room rate if you have an AP.

a few things you should consider:

If you have a room only reservation, you cannot add the DDP unless you are a current Annual Pass holder or you are staying in a DVC resort room. Normally you can only add the DDP to a room "package". However, recently disney has offered people who stay in a DVC resort room on points the option to add the DDP. Likewise, disney has recently announced that Annual Passholders can add the DDP to a room only reservation.

Technically, you are supposed to have the annual pass at check in to take advantage of annual pass rates or the addition of ddp to a room only reservation. SOMETIMES the resort will accept the AP voucher, but most of the times they require a valid AP.

Make sure that if you want to upgrade your MYW tickets to an annual pass that you don't have the "water parks and more" on the MYW tickets. If you do then you can only upgrade to a PREMIUM Annual Pass.

Also, if you want to upgrade your tickets to an annual pass, there is a debate on if you need at least one unused day left on your tickets to do so. Meaning some people have said that they need to upgrade to an AP prior to the 10th day of a 10 day MYW ticket.

I looked back on my dates and on the 7th day of our 7 day park hopper tickets is the day that I upgraded our tickets to annual passes. I only upgraded 5 of the 8 of us. I did the transaction at the MK customer service, we had been in the park all morning, did the upgrade before lunch and then continued with our park touring. The upgrade was very easy to do and the CM was not surprised by my request and knew exactly how to do the transaction. It was explained to me that they needed to credit me the gate price of a 7 day park hopper ticket, they were aware that the credit was more than I paid, but this is the procedure, and then charged me the annual pass price with me paying the difference. It was a piece of cake and I then went to get fastpasses, no problem. There also was no problem using our dining credits.

Thank you! I hadn't even thought of problems with the dining credits.

Also, I've heard that you have 14 days from the first use of expiring tickets to upgrade. So I wonder that if you use your 7 day ticket up and then try to upgrade within the 14 days, will they let you?

if you are going that route, you'll have to dump the whole thing and rebook. There are limits on the number of AP discount rooms... and putting the DDP on an AP room makes it a package and changes the booking rules... look at all of this very carefully.

yeah, the better option for the AP upgrade might be to use the tickets as the upgrade when leaving

Thank you so much!
I think what I will do is keep my reservation as it is, and then once we are in WDW I will upgrade to AP's on our lastday. Thanks again for the great info:goodvibes

I don't think you need to have an AP discounted room to add the DDP. I think you just need to be an ap holder to add DDP to any room only reservation. Having the AP eliminates the need to purchase park tickets.

This is what I got from all ears net:
