Finally we have too the plunge and booked our flights, we are going indirect via Newark, from Birmingham, it's our local airport and literally at the end of our garden so we might as well use it!

We got them for£496 which I'm pleased with, just got to resist the temptation to check the prices now! Lol

That's a good price and so convenient for you, how much do you charge for 2-weeks parking? :rotfl:

Happy Planning

Lol yes never thought of that! Some people do rent their drive ways for that though don't they! :-)

Yes and what about one nights B&B with a parking package, any special offers for DIS members?

We flew from Birmingham last year with the "Delta Glitch". Our connection was in Paris and we paid £515 each so you got a good price. I used a meet and greet valet parking service because we drove up from Essex. It was £105, they met us at the airport, took the car, gave us a receipt. When we got back, we just texted them when we were getting luggage and they met us outside with our car. No stress at all.

Great news Gem, what are your dates then?

Flying out 13th Oct and back 3rd November, now it's booked it doesn't seem that far away!

Well done. You don't know how lucky you are. I guess this will be with United? It may surprise you to learn that United flights from Edinburgh on these dates cost at least £150 more. Our flights which leave 3 days earlier in fact cost us more than £200 more per person! All this despite the fact Edinburgh is actually closer to Newark than Birmingham! Are there any other Scots on these blogs who are fed up being ripped off?

Wow really? I wonder why that is?
It's still quite a bit more expensive than we have paid with United from Bhx in previous years, in 2009 we paid £320 at Christmas. There's nothing like that on offer these days. I think those days are well and truly gone!

Planning has well and truly commenced as my BFF and I have been looking into character meals for both her and my DDs birthdays. So far we are liking to look of either CRT or Crystal Palace.

We're also going via Newark in July, again good offer, have you been via Newark before, have you any info on what the airport is like as we have a 9 hour stopover during the night, thinking of staying at airport hotel.

Hi
Yes we've done it quite a few times, but never with a long layover like that, the only time we have stayed in airport for a while was when we missed our connection due to a security breach, this meant we had to stay in the airport overnight until the next available flight in the morning of the following day, we didn;t bother to get a hotel and just stayed in the departure lounge, although this website tells you all about what hotels there are nearby http://newark.airporthotelguide.com/

It's a huge airport, you pick up your baggage and re check it, you will also go through immigration at EWR, we have always found the line to be a lot shorter than in MCO when we have gone into there direct, also we find the immigration staff to be much friendlier in EWR. Once you have gone through you head to Terminal C, you will take a mono rail here, there are shops, restaurants and other amenities - we like to grab a bite to eat and "exercise" the children! :rotfl: you can also see the Empire State building over the river which is always worth a look.

When you get to Orlando you can just pick up your baggage and move through the airport like a domestic passenger as you have already done immigration etc, this usually means that you can get in line for the car hire desk before others coming in directly, you'll find that a lot of people on the connection will either be being collected or parked at the airport and won't be waiting in line, if there are direct flights coming in you may find a difference but hopefully all those people will be in the hour + line for immigration! :rolleyes1:rolleyes1

How come you ended up with such a long layover?

I hope this helps
Gems :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info, never had that long either but flights were too good to pass up, we'll see how we do, should be okay and there are plenty of hotels to choose from, not bad prices.

We also don't have to worry about luggage either do we as it will be rechecked and go onto Orlando the next morning with us. We will just have our hand luggage to deal with or do you think we will have the option to take our suitcases with us?
