We just booked the Disneyland Hotel (preferred view, with a request for DD view) only 32 days before the check-in date! They had rooms available via DVC reservation points at both the GCH and the DLH.

We're still booked for October 2008 - but due to all the rehabs around that time (Fantasmic, the Aladdin show, Pirates and possibly Main Street being torn up too), we decided to book the extra flights and see what we could do with reservation points to get us there quickly.

Last moment bookings CAN happen!

What is the normal time frame one should book at these hotels? I plan to visit in September, 2009? Is 6 mos. out too late?

I've booked one of our trips 2 weeks before check-in. Normally we book 2-3 months before check-in. So far I have never been shut out of DL for availability.

I agree that the hotels at DL are generally easier to book than at WDW. Except when we need a suite, we rarely book more than a month ahead. We just booked for late August using the AP7 rates, which are good but not as good as the AP rates for last Fall. We never have enough points for WDW, so I have a hard time using points at DL. -- Suzanne

My understanding is that the Disneyland Resort hotels block out rooms for DVC member reservations, and do not release them until 14 days prior to check in. They have to do this because these hotels there run at 94% Capacity most of the year.

Can you imagine how sales would be affected in California if members who bought there had trouble making reservations at Disneyland?

Well that is not good....I will need to plan for airfare before then. I think I'll call MS just to double check on that...I thought we could book with points up to 11 mos. ahead.....Well I just called and we can book as far ahead as 11 mos. out for those rooms. It is true that there are only so many rooms allocated for DVC members using points.

Just to clarify - you mean that they block out the DVC rooms and don't release them to the general public until 14 days out in order to give the DVC owners opportunity to book?

Disneyland Hotels should be booked as early as you can - up to 11 months prior to check-in. I normally book as early as possible. Even though there may be vacancies later, you may not get the hotel (or view) that you want.

In slower seasons you could probably book 6 months out and still have all options available, but don't leave it longer than that. At the 4-month mark to this October, there's been no availability for cash or DVC points.

Thanks for that advice! :thumbsup2
