Booked Desert Inn . . is it the right choice?

I've stayed at the Desert Inn before and had NOO problems. I mean for all who've complained about it; you kind of get what you pay for. If you are planning on staying at this hotel, don't expect GCH and you'll be fine. It was very convenient because it is right across the street to the resort and there is a Denny's right next door. Hope you guys have an awesome time !!!

Yes you do get what you pay for, but even though it is inexpensive I do not expect a dirty room, especially the floors! They were disgusting! I've stayed at many hotels ranging from inexpensive to the Grand Californian, and yes booking a room for $59, you should not expect the Ritz, but a clean decent place is all I am asking.

Again, this is just my opinion!

For anyone worrying about time...I did a pictorial time-stamp thing in my May trip report. The night before we went to the parks, I wore "cute" shoes and destroyed my feet. They were nearly one big blister, even going between my toes. It was well over after we got back home that they *started* to truly heal. I was in PAIN.

But still, we were in the middle of the HoJo parking lot at 8:55, and at the Tropicana sign before 9:01. We were through bag check, through the gates, and I was taking pictures on Main Street at 9:16.

The main time crunch is from the gates to esplanade and out to the crosswalk...the time along Harbor is negligible compared to the time it takes between Harbor and being inside a park. :)

Danger Danger Danger...disposable plastic ponchos, sigh... That will have to change once you move to the Seattle area, b/c part of living here means re-using many many things, especially non-recyclable plastic ponchos.

Plus, the dollar store ones cling like saran wrap. Who needs THAT?:upsidedow :scared:

I've only stayed at the Desert Inn and never will again. I'd rather have to stay farther away and drive into the parks every day. I did not have high expectations at all and couldn't care less about amenities or breakfast or the pool. I just want it to be decently clean - that is all - and our room was not. Yuck! The whole place was grungy.

And as far as getting what you paid for I paid $130 per night for our room but I expect basic cleanliness at any hotel that is doing business with the public.

I agree with my cousin, wazowskiLOVER, only because I was with her when she stayed at this hotel. I liked the Desert Inn. It's close, it's clean, it has a bed. I'm surprised to read what you, tlovesdis & bethy both wrote about the condition of your rooms simply because our experience was EXCELLENT. But hey, you're entitled to your opinions right? Well there's my input.

we've stayed here twice and will be back in a couple of weeks, but only because i couldnt get the ENT rate at HoJo's with such little notice.

we did not experience any of these problems. we love the shorter walk and don't use the breakfast, it was perfect for us.

We stay at the Desert Inn most of the time, and I have 2 trips booked with them now. Never had a serious issue with them. There is one of their front desk representatives that is a little "goofy", but I just ignore his childishness. :lmao:

I truly am glad that most folks seemed to have had a perfectly fine experience there. I feel kind of badly for even posting anything negative but OTOH I know now much I greatly rely on reviews to make my own travel choices and I really appreciate straightforward and candid honesty and so that's what I offer. Even the best of hotels gets a negative review now and then. People's expectations and actual experiences really can vary widely and that's to be expected to a certain degree.

Don't feel bad.

I've complained about a 5 star hotel in Park City Utah because they were AWFUL to us, but everyone else loves them *Shrug*

I'd NEVER stay there again. They couldn't PAY me enough.

I guess I don't really have a choice anyway. If it's nasty, I'll see what I can do to get the maids back in there (and I throw some pretty cool fits...just kidding)

Well I bit the bullet and booked the BWPPI . . . now I need to cancel at Desert Inn. For the same dates it was a $146.xx difference when using the Emtertainment rate and since the concensus is there isn't much difference between the two I'll go with the cheaper one. :)
