Booked a Vacation We Can Afford!

Probably not a big deal to great budget people, but for the first time ever, I just booked a vacation that I could pay for in full at this very moment, except that I didn't, just because it isn't due yet.

BUT, I can pay it in full come July 1, when I have to!!!

I just have to share because it's a major breakthrough in budgeting for DH and myself!

Thanks everyone! It's a very different feeling to be booking a vacation and knowing that I have the money versus booking a vacation, trying to figure out how I will GET the money and then end up still having the balance for a while because I didn't get the money in time before the vacation started OR before the end of the 6 month 0% period!

I see the satisfaction is saying okay, I have this much saved in my vacation fund, what can I afford to do?

It isn't an expensive vacation. We are staying value resort. We are getting the quick service plan (free dining). We have one character meal planned (breakfast) OOP. And we are driving ourselves. But we can pay for it, so I'm thrilled.

I have never booked a vacation any other way...........we save and then see how much we have and then research where and when we could go for that amount of money.........

Couldnt imagine booking something and then having the stress of trying to pay it off and trying to figure out where the money would come from.

Now. Figure out how much you saved by doing that! Where do you usually stay? Do you normally get the dining plan? I would (and have) figured up how much you would have paid and then that makes you feel even BETTER!! hehe

Thanks everyone! I really love reading all the encouragement.

The fact is that we started looking at all the different options, as usual. I have to admit that it's hard to think about going to a full sized bed for our vacation when we sleep on a king at home. And we didn't start looking at values, but once we actually priced out the options and took a look at the money at hand, we knew that the decision was in keeping with our goals. Goals toward being a certain kind of person living a certain kind of life.

I admit that a part of me is a little nervous that our trip will not be quite like it has been in the past. But the thought of going home to no new debt after vacation has me on something of a high.

For those that have always lived life this way...kudos to you. It's where we want to be. Small steps!!
