Hiya :)

So our Heritage Tour trip with DD's class is two weeks away (can't wait!!) and it all starts with a 12-hour bus ride.

I'd like to get her a couple of books to take with her to try to read in between gabbing with her friends. She's NOT a big reader; she ate up the Twilight series, and has read Get Well Soon and went through that pretty quickly. She has tried Harry Potter and while she likes it, she doesn't seem to have the patience for it; though she did see all the movies and read the last book. We got her the Narnia books for Christmas last year and I don't even think they've been opened :guilty:

Can anyone suggest books that you think might be a good fit for her?

Thanks in advance!! :flower3:

If she enjoyed the Twilight series, my DD15 would HIGHLY recommend PC Cast's House of Night novels. She has been reading these for a while now, and gobbles each new one up as soon as it is released. I, personally, have not read this series, but I have read some of PC Cast's "adult" novels...these are "young adult" books... and enjoyed them very much.

I was also going to suggest the House of Night novels by PC Cast, especially if she liked Twilight.

Another book that she might like is the Hunger Games and the sequel Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. Fantastic books, not your typical YA novels. I seriously can't say enough good things about them.

ETA: I love reading YA books (guess I never grew up) so I am also looking forward to seeing all the responses!

Oooboy, both the Cast Series and the Kissed By an Angel sound right up her alley!

Going to Barnes on my lunch break, maybe I'll pick up one of them to see how she likes it, and go from there.

Thanks so much for the awesome suggestions; I might actually try out the Cast books as well! :thumbsup2

I would also recommend the Vladimir Todd series by Heather Brewer. There are three books right now, with a fourth one coming out very soon. http://books.barnesandnoble.com/search/results.aspx?WRD=heather+brewer&box=heather brewer&pos=-1

My DS14 also really enjoyed the books by Cinda Chima. Her first trilogy was awesome (I read them too) and the first book in her next trilogy was great too. http://books.barnesandnoble.com/search/results.aspx?WRD=cinda+chima&box=cinda chima&pos=-1

ETA ~ Heather Brewer is also a DISer, if that would be of any interest to her.

My 14 year old daughter was never a reader either. She loved the Twilight series and then we couldn't find anything she liked. Then she found teen romance-type books and she now can read a book a day. Try Sarah Dessen books (there are a lot and she's liked most, but not all of them).

I second the Sarah Dessen books. If I remember correctly, dd's favorites were Just Listen, Lock and Key, and The Truth About Forever, but she has really liked them all. Also, just about anything by Sharon Creech, though a couple were very sad.

The Truth About Forever and This Lullaby by Dessen are my favorites.
City of Bones, City of Ashes, and City of Glass by Cassandra Clare

I would suggest that YOU read the first book in PC + Kristen Cast's House of Night series and then decide if your DD would like it. Now I would probably let my 14 YO read it, but to each his own ;) (I have read them, BTW)

Bloom by Elizabeth Scott. That book took my breath away it was so good!

Try The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It was a book first. :goodvibes

I got it for my DSD off of a recommendation. She looked at it like I was crazy. But one day she had run out of all of her books and hadn't gone to the library so she opened it up. She read the entire book straight through (she never slept). Absolutely loved it!

Dd13 read the book Speak last year, and she's not a reader (yet loved the Twilight series, of course). It does involve date-rape, but it was a really good book - I enjoyed it myself!

DD12 is currently reading thru The Morganville Vampire series by Rachel Caine. DS15 has read everything that is out as well.

Both are currently reading thru Vampire Acacemy by Richelle Meade as they come out.

We found both of these do to DH and I both reading the adult series that they write.

DD17 enjoyed TTYL by Lauren Myracle on our trip. She said is was an easy read. Also in the series are TTFN and L8R G8R. These books are definetely in the age range of 14. My daughter likes light reading on our trips...

She also enjoys the books by Meg Cabot. Just make sure you are in the Young Adult section as she also writes for adults.

My DD13 enjoys the Sarah Dessen books also. There have been a couple that she's even read more than once.

Yes!!! This was going to be my suggestion, too! I STILL love this book - and the whole series. The first one came out when I was about 13 or 14 and that's when I read it. My friends and I all loved the series - we passed around all the books until everyone had read them all haha

Does she read in the car? My dd is big reader but cannot read in a moving vehicle. Just throwing that out there so you don't spend a fortune in books.

If she has not read Percy Jackson series, I say go for that one, since the movie is coming out.:thumbsup2
