Book room now? Package later?

Hi! I have a quick question....

Can my parents book a room at POP now for a week-long visit in June & then switch it to a package if/when special priced packages are announced as the date gets closer?

DH & I have APs, so I'm not quite sure how packages work. I know my parents want the dining plan, water parks, etc.

Yes, we did that every year. If/When a package comes out Disney will cancel the first reservation and start with a new one for the package. The deposit put down on the room only reservation will be credited back to the credit card and a new deposit will be taken on the package reservation. Packages are not guaranteed to be offered, so if there is none, your parents will at least have a room only reservation made.

If a package is announced, you still need to be on top of things and call as soon as you can to make the new reservation. There is a limited number of rooms offered at certain resorts for the packages and once they are gone, they are gone.

Also be aware, that if a package is offered, they might not get a room at the original resort they have reservations for, so they need to be flexible.
