Hey DISers! I have to do a book report, what do you think?
Biography Book Report
I chose to read Sam Walton, Made in America: My Story as my autobiography. It was published in 1992 by Doubleday.
Knowledge:
Five Facts I did not know about Sam Walton are:
1) He owned several other stores before opening Wal-Mart.
2) Contradictory to where the Wal-Mart headquarters are, the first Wal-Mart store opened in Rogers, Arkansas, approximately eight miles from Bentonville.
3) Sam Walton was an avid quail hunter, as well as a pilot.
4) Prior to the Waltons new home being built, their previous home burnt down when struck by lighting. This happened in 1972.
5) Sam once lost a bet concerning Wal-Marts stock, and he had to hula on Wall Street as a result.
Comprehension:
Sam Walton worked very hard in his lifetime. He opened his first store, a Ben Franklin variety store in Newport, Arkansas. In the first three years of Sam operating the store, it went from $72,000 in sales to $175,000. On July 2, 1962, the first Wal-Mart opened. It made about one million dollars in sales.
