My daughter is going into the 2nd grade this year and loves to read. I want to of course keep fostering her love of reading but I was wondering if anyone could recommend good books for her age? Right now she reads the Junie B Jones books. Are there any other good series of books or stand alone books that are good for her age?

Thanks!

My DD is going into 3rd grade. When she was in 2nd she loved to read The Magic Treehouse series- there are about 100 of them! She also loves Geronimo Stilton (about a detective mouse) and the Judy Moody series.

A to Z Mysteries, Boxcar Children, Humphrey books, Junie B, Disney Fairy books,

DS7 is going into second grade:

Flat Stanley
Jigsaw Jones
Magic Treehouse
A to Z Mysteries

My son reads these Del Torra books.. I have only found them at half priced books though, and he read the Harry Potter series in the second grade. He LOVED them!

My DD is going into 3rd grade and she loves to read a group of books called "Puppy Place". There are quite a few of them, and I think a new one just came out.

Does your daughter like horses? There are several Breyer horse books out there. Also, along the animal path, are a series called "Animal Ark".

beverly cleary's books are older, but timeless for this age-the ramona and beezus books, henry huggins (and ribsey, socks, mitch and amy, and the various other spin offs).

the little house on the prarie books are o.k. for a reader of this age.

these books are of course longer reads than junie b. jones, but once she starts in on them, she will find they are not difficult reads.

All my kids' favorite at that age "Snot Stew" by bill Wallace! So cute about a dog and cat that argue "Is not" Is too"--say it fast and it's stot stew!!

My DS was obsessed with the Magic Treehouse books in 2nd grade. I think that is about all he read!

Plus if my dates are right Ramona and Beezus (I think Selena Gomez is playing her) will be a movie pretty soon.

My daughter is going into third grade this fall and in 2nd, she LOVED the Little House on the Prairie books. She also really enjoyed the Wrinkle in Time books.

Right now, she is tearing through all of the fairy books (Not Disney, but the other fairy set)

Babysitter's Little Sister series. If that's easy for her, then the Babysitters Club series.

When my son was that age he love The Magic Treehouse series, A to Z Mysteries, Jigsaw Jones and Geronimo Stilton (as well as June B. Jones). :)

There is a series of books called Warriors, about stray cats. My girls both love those and they are starting 3rd and 5th grade.

After Junie B Jones I got them reading Disney Fairy books, the original novels of favorite Disney movies (101 Dalmations is the BEST) and Trixie Beldon. They have also enjoyed Percy Jackson books and the Chronicles of Narnia books.

My DS7 LOVES Ready, Freddy books! They are like Junie B. for boys! Not saying that Junie B. is just for girls because we have read the entire series through twice and we love them just as much!

My DD is going into 2nd and LOVES the Rainbow Fairy series. Each set has 7 books (about the length of Junie B.), but there are many different sets: rainbow fairies, dance fairies, music fairies, day of the week fairies, etc.

The other series I haven't seen mentioned is the Pony-Crazed Princess books. i think there are 10 or 11. Very cute, and my DD loves absolutely anything about horses.
