book now or wait for a promo

I was looking for opinions on whether or not to book our August 2010 trip now or wait for a promo to come out. I know if I book it then I can call and change my reservation but I am not sure how easy it is to do that. I just wanted to hear some opinions from the experts on DIS. Thanks!

I usually go ahead and book, then when a code comes out I just call and apply the code to my reservation. It's really easy, just a phone call.:goodvibes

I agree, it's just a simple phone call when the offer is announced! I have my trip in March booked and I'm just waiting for the specials to come out.

Being on the Dis is one of the first places you will hear about any specials coming out. If you call early to have it applied to your reservation, you shouldn't have any problems. :)

Keep in mind if you are booking a package the travel insurance is non-refundable. I would add the insurance later if you want it (which you may for an August trip - hurricane season).

HTH! :wizard:

Book the room directly with Disney. Call. Do not book online or with an agent. When a deal comes out Disney will apply it at that point.

Why can't you book online and then get a code applied later? Isn't booking online booking directly with Disney? TIA

I don't know why you wouldn't want to book online, same as calling WDW. If a code does come out, you will need to call Disney and have it applied, not trust that it wil be done automatically. If you do go the agent route, a good one will do the modification for you. Also, If you are going to add travel ins., you must add it before making final payment. If going during Hurricane Season, I'd not forego it.

I am waiting for a promo code before I book. We're flexible with our dates and in addition, the number of nights we stay and which resort we pick will be dependent on what type of offer is available.

If your dates are set in stone and/or you have a specific resort that is the only place you're wanting to stay I think it can't hurt to book and make the change later if a deal comes out.:goodvibes

OP...on the issue of booking now or waiting...this time we're going to wait a little while longer. For our Jan 2009 trip we booked the room we wanted, WL club level, believing that if/when a promo came out we could just apply it to the ressie we had by making a new ressie under the promo. That's not what happened. When the 4/3 deal came out, we called to apply it to our current ressie, but too bad for us, there were no rooms available for our dates, so we had 4 options, pay w/ no promo, change resorts, take a downgrade in our room or not go at all. They wouldn't even let us cancel the ressie we had and rebook it w/ the promo. The IPO had already booked our adr's and other activities and we'd already paid for quite a few things, so we changed from WL to Poly club level, but it took 3 days. So applying a promo to an existing ressie is easy IF disney has that room available w/ the promo and there's no guarentee that they will.

I was gonna say that I usually wait to book because the less rooms taken for my dates of travel the more the chance there will be discounts.. supply and demand hard at work there..

But if I was particular about where I was staying I would book now to be sure barring anything else I have the room I want. Keep in mind like others have said, there is no guarantee that there will be availability at the hotel you want when a deal comes out, even with a room booked.
