Book now, code later??

I've always waited to book until AP discounts came out. This year, I thought maybe I could book now at rack rate (for Dec.) and request the discount (assuming there will be one) rate when the codes are released.
Has anyone done this? I'm thinking the worst case is I have to make a second ressie and just cancel the first, but at least I know I'll have a room.

Yes, that is what I do every year. I book what I want and when/if a discount comes out for that I will call and apply it.

Have A Magical Day!

I just made reservations for five nights in January at the Boardwalk Inn. I am paying rack rate, but will modify when the AAA rates are released.

At least I have what I want and the trip is in the bag :teeth:

Just make sure to book what you are willing to pay whether a discount comes out or not. I see many people book what they want but then cancel when the code doesn't come out. Disney sees a resort booking up and won't offer codes for that resort. You shoot yourself in the foot doing that. We always book the Poly because we are willing to pay rackrate if codes don't come out.

I agree. We will stay at the BWI even if we can't apply a discount to the rate. However, I do have high hopes that we will be able to apply the AAA discount to this rate.

I just realized what you posted. It is exactly what I was talking about not doing in my earlier post. Book waht you are willing to pay for, code or not. Doing otherwise ruins it for everyone.

I never said I wouldn't stay if discount codes don't appear. I just wondered if it was possible to change an existing rack-rate reservation to the lower AP price should a discount be offered after making the reservation. If that isn't possible, then I would make a new reservation at the discounted rate and cancel the old rack-room rate.
In the past, I've waited for discounts to be offered and haven't been able to get into the resorts I really wanted as they were booked by that time. This time, I've already booked at rack-rate to make sure I get what I want, but hope I can get the rate reduced if/when a discount is offered.

Aren't AAA rates always in place, pretty much? I just booked BC and signed up for AAA to save about $500 off rack. I'm still waiting to see if any codes pop for Nov - but if not, the AAA rate helped.

Am I missing something?

My apologies for misunderstanding you! Yes, if the ap rates come out and there is one available for your particular resort then you can apply it to your existing reservation. :thumbsup2

No problem - I knew what you were saying and I totally agree! Just didn't want anyone to have the wrong idea.

Funny thing about all this - I STILL couldn't get my first choice. According to WDW, the only room left at CR for my dates is a concierge tower room... WAY out of my price range with or without an AP discount! I wound up going with 2 nights at POR followed by 3 nights at AKL.
