We are new to the boards and just purchased into SSR when we were at WDW on December 30. We are looking at taking a cruise in the next year and a half. From what we've been reading, it seems like it may be better for us to pay cash rather than using, banking and borrowing points. If we pay cash, can you do this through MS (we heard that you can book rooms at a discount through MS sometimes with cash) or is the best bet to just book through the Disney website?

Thanks so much - I've been addicted to reading these boards ever since we got back from WDW. ::MickeyMo

The cruise is excellent. I priced a one week for two of us and the cost in points was going to be roughly 540 - cash would have been about 2500. To me, I could rent out 250 points and pay for the week (at $10 per point). I pay about four dollars in maintenance, so the one week cruise would have cost us only $1000 and we would have a lot more points left. Althought booking thru MS is handy - renting out the points to do the cruise is an amazing saving. I could never book the one week cruise for two of us for that price - and it wasn't the lowest category stateroom.

To answer your question on who to book thru, we used cruisevalue.com. They saved us quite a bit, and disney sent us all our paperwork, and we were still able to access our itinerary on the disney cruiseline website, so it was worth it.
