We have always booked ahead, but I was wondering if any of you guys had snagged a last minute deal (we are thinking for August 2006),and if so how much did you save , if you don`t mind me asking
Cheers

Getting a flight in the school holidays could be a problem but if you're prepared to take a chance then you might get a bargain. Good luck.

I guess it depends on who you are flying with and when you book, we are going in 2 weeks but the Virgin brochure price for next August for a fly drive is £250 each more than we paid this year.

The prices for the Summer Holidays have really gone through the roof and really take unfair advantage of the fact that a lot of people can only go during this time. Can only presume that people are just not prepared to pay it and who can blame them?

I have read that not all flights have been fully booked so I would suggest you try and get a late bargain, providing you are not too concerned who you fly with.

It may also depend on how many seats you're looking for - if there are only two of you travelling you'll stand a better chance of finding last minute space on a flight than if you hope to find a bargain for a family of 6!

Personally, I don't have the nerve or flexibility with dates to risk missing out on the flights and accommodation we want, so I always book ahead, but I've often been surprised at how limited the availability is for school holiday dates even a year or more in advance.

I am booking ahead for next august.
I have been on the phone all day to loads of agents and the feedback i keep getting is that, there arent as many late deals available anymore, as the companies have cottoned on to people holding back to book. flight prices are therefore cheaper now, and than get dearer..

I have been a travel agent for 15 years and would most definately book ahead for August.

In all those years I have never known there to be any bargains for this month, you're normally lucky if you can get a flight at all and they are usually silly money.

I know it's still expensive but at least you can budget for it and also start the planning which is half the fun anyway :earsboy:

Yes, you get a whole year's worth of planning and anticipation if you book now - that has to be a plus factor! :teeth:
