Can I do this then add tickets later? Thinking of a split stay where the first stay would be with kids, second stay just us parents. But I want dH and I to be able to do our FP for the entire length of stay instead of having it be two booking windows

First, if both stays are onsite and contiguous (no night elsewhere in-between), your FP+ booking window should open in full with the first reservation.

You can book a ticketless package by calling. I don't know about adding tickets later, everybody on a package must have the same package components which includes the number of days on the tickets. I would buy tickets separately, maybe through a 3rd party vendor to save money. I would just do room-only resort reservations and take the value of the dining plan on a gift card, but if your family really likes the dining plan you can call for the ticketless package.

Enjoy your vacation!

Only way you can book ticket-less dining package is if you're an AP, DVC, or booking a Military package.

Not sure if it’s called a “ticket-less package” but I have called to book a room only with dining many times, and then later added tickets from Undercover Tourist.
I am not an AP, DVC or military.

Nope, anyone can book a ticketless package. You book a room-only reservation and later add the dining plan. I believe it has to be done over the phone (can't be done online) but it's not only available to AP/DVC/Military.

Yes, you can easily add tickets to a "ticketless package", however, as PP noted, all guests listed on a reservation would have to have the same tickets added. If you want your kids to have less park days than you and your spouse due to the split stay, buying tickets separately may be the way to go on this particular type of booking.

Anyone can book a "ticketless package" but you must call in the reservation. This didn't use to be the case, but they changed the policy, with no real public announcement, a few years ago.

So if I do a room only, add dining by phone, them buy 3rd party tix for us where kids have less days and link them to mde will that work? I can easily eat their DDP credits!!

Anyone can book ticketless room & dining, you just have to call instead of do it online. I did it before all the corona stuff started.

Yes, but you need to book the ticketless package over the phone. If you book room-only on the website and then call in, they will have to cancel your room-only and then re-book the package. Yes, you can then buy separate tickets and link them in MDE. If you don't want to pay for your kids' DDP for the entire time you and your spouse are there, you could also book two ticketless packages as a split stay.

Just make sure you allow time to link the tickets to MDE before your 60 FP+ window opens.

A technical reason in the reservation system. One side for Room Only (RO) and the other side for packages (they are a Travel Agency, Walt Disney Travel Company (WDTC)) in addition to working with external Travel Agencies. Packages have different requirements, rules, and payment terms.

This often confuses many guests when they want to switch between a RO & a Package.
