Assuming one has to book only a few months in advance and there are no 2 bedroom available that one likes, can one also choose to book (for example) 2 rooms at the Poly and use points? Thanks

That would be using the Disney Collection which is like trading out of DVC. It costs $95 to do that, plus the points to do that are very high. Not something I would do unless I was desperate to get rid of points or had so many points that I didn't know what to do with them.

The garden view Poly room during value season in 2010 cost 41 points per night. A standard view BLT 2 BR cost 34 points a night for the same period (using that as comparison since both are MK resorts on the monorail).

Big difference between a regular hotel room and a 2 BR and the regular room would cost 25% more. Plus the $95 fee and if you made any changes that $95 would be charged again.

Thanks for your answers. Let me clarify that I am wondering because if I buy a deal I am considering, there are points which need to be used by the end of this summer, but I would not have them to book until a few months in advance, so I am worried about limited options and availability at villas. We have 3 kids, so they would require a 2 bedroom, right? From what I read, that might be very difficult to get.

BLT and AKV (as well as OKW) have a sleeper chair in the 1 bedroom so you can sleep 5 in those.

Getting a BLT LV 1 bedroom may be possible on the short notice, as well as a 1 bedroom at AKV, if you are not particular about view or the building.

But, if you are buying a contract and the points are "use or lose", then in this case, booking something like the Poly is a great alternative.

Good luck!

Great! I just needed to know there was an option so as not to lose the points.

If you want to stay in the last 4 months of your use year at non-DVC (except DL), you must book it before the 4 month mark. So with a September use year, you would have to book it by 4/30.
