Boo Hoo, Lost My Cruise Date--Final Update Page 4

I just went to Expedia's site ( www.expedia.com ) and they had four cat 9 rooms available it seemed (I went through the whole booking process up to the credit card part/sign in part).

They are all on Deck 2 and are: 2592, 2598, 2600, 2602

I would suggest hurrying over to their site to check.

Good luck!!!

Ok, I didn't read the whole thread, but quickly tried to help, but I didn't add in the kids. :(

Thus, I went to Cruise.com and they seemed prepared to take a reservation for a cat 8 for 2 adults and 2 kids with room to be assigned.

Maybe you can check them out, too. :magnify:

It certainly can't hurt to check things out.

Good luck!!!!!

There are no quad rooms available at all on this sailiing, there are only doubles and triples left. You need to check every day because availability is always changing.

Greysword,
Oh they definitely were prepared to take my ressie which kind of freaked my mom out. I went through the whole "booking" process on line--very excited. Cruise.com even went so far as to take my mom's credit card number to book, which I gave them thinking this was the only room I could get. After I gave my credit card number a screen popped up telling me that they were unable to give me a confirmation on this purchase and that someone from cruise.com would contact me. So, they didn't have a room either but led you to believe they did. Now, my mom is PO'd because they have her credit card number. I tried to tell her not to worry, they nothing illegal was gonna happen.

Also, cruise.com did have a very good price they were quoting (on a room they didn't have); however, their travel insurance was WAY higher than what DCL or DU were quoting. I think everyone else quoted me about $177.00 for the 4 people, but cruise.com wanted $396.00. I don't know if you can buy other insurance through Disney or if you have to take only what the travel agent offers.

Well, I've found out that every quad is now booked, even the Category 4's and my mom is happy with the wait-list situation. However, she said to me last night "Hmmmm.....I wonder if any 7-day cruises are available?" I said "Mom, I thought $$$$ was an issue." And she said, "well it all comes down to how much bang for you buck you're getting. Maybe the 7-day would be a better deal."

So, last night, back on line I went. First I did the Western and the way they cruise the dates didn't really work out with the "situation" we are working with.

Then I did the Eastern. PERFECT dates (24-31 July) which is the exact time I need. AND they had availability.

DCL is quoting me $6131 for a Category 9 room.

Then I went on cruisecompete.com and got two quotes right away. One for $5745, and another for $5303. Wow. Do you think these are good deals for short-notice cruising in the summer?

I excitedly called my mom and she perked up a bit. I am trying to get her to make a committment this weekend (although she is very conservative). I will probably get her over my house to read some of these boards to make her feel comfy about going for 7 days. Plus I think these rooms will go pretty fast.

So, do you think this is a deal or should I wait for the wait-list or book for next year????? I know, a very personal decision, but we've never cruised before.

We will keep our fingers crossed that everything works out for you! I hope Cruise.com gets back to you with good news!! They will beat/match any quotes you get. Took my ressie online with no prob. The catg. I wanted was full, so they assigned a guarantee room. They also give 10% to seniors over 55. However, Disney is one of the few cruise lines that will not give senior disc.

On the travel insurance - I suggested you give insuremytrip.com
a try. This site will bring up several companies for you to compare and choose from. We have used for our crusies and trips w/o problems. For same amt. coverage, they seem to be half the cost of others. Good luck!

I will tell you, this has been a real eye-opener, learning experience for me. Without the help of all of you that have responded I would have NEVER gotten as far as I have.

I'm thinking my mom will take the 7-day cruise. She is a notoriously conservative person (I got all the *impulsive* genes), so it will take her a day or two to warm up to the idea of a change. Sometimes her attitude causes her to lose out on things, but other times it keeps her out of trouble!!

Anyway, I am the official "travel agent". My mom likes to go, but she is not interested in spending all day on the phone researching nor is she much of an internet person. So, she is perfectly happy to leave all the legwork up to me. I'm perfectly happy to do it since she is taking my kids and paying their way!!!

I will definitely keep you posted. I'm betting by tomorrow she books the 7-day cruise!

Have you tried Yourmagicaljourneys.com ? We use them for WDW and are using them for our first DCL cruise next year. Right now the yare offering a promo of $100 on-board credit and a 6% discount. If you go to there sight you fill out a quote form and they will usually get back to you pretty quick. We actualy had them book our cruise in Febuary when the fall 2005 rates first came out, but the promo they are running starting today was a better deal, so they rebooked it for us.

Mom is right, there is more bang for the buck. The prices you have gotten sound very good. But in the summer, book the catagory you want, there aren't many upgrades as the cruise sells out and not a lot of folks cancell.

Hold those rooms on the Magic until Mom decides. You can always cancel before 60 days out. Don't loose out again. You will love the day. Think of it this way.. there is no longer than 3 days in between the time you can get on land so you should be just as well on the 7 as the 4 day.
Good Luck.

did you try calling dcl and ask them if there are any ta's with rooms still on hold. they might have suggestions. if they don't try to call 8 hours later (shift change) also, ask to talk to someone else, because once the rooms are booked i believe the ta puts the room in your name so they should be able to tell you something. also, i heard rooms open up not to long before the trip and that is why so many people get upgrades so they can book the lower cat. rooms for cheap. so as long as you aren't to picky on the cat. you might get lucky

Well, Mom went for the 7 day Magic cruise. I guess that final quote from cruisecompete did it. It came in at $5116.00. After going back in forth with a few of the quotes, that turned out to be our lowest.

So, we got a guarantee of a Category 9 with no room assignment yet.

Oh, and the cruise travel agent was called: cruisevacationcenter.com.

A few of the other travel agents seemed more knowledgeable, but they were several hundred dollars cheaper. Does make me a bit nervous......

Well, I'm sure you will be seeing me asking a lot of questions in the near future. Now that the cruise is booked, I must do more research for the rest of trip.

Thanks!!!!!!

Hooray!! I am so glad it all worked out!! They are going to have so much fun!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
