I was intrested in buying into fairfield/wyndham timeshare. Most likely at bonnet creek, considering a resale is cheaper but does not allow you to be vip(requires 300,000), I was wondering if I bought 250,000 points from a resale could I then buy an additional 50,000 points directly from ff/wyndahm would that make me vip?

that would be nice, but unless things have changed since we last investigated the Fairfield program, to get into the VIP aspect, we were told the points have to be "obtained" from the developer

we had sorta thought as you did, that we could get into the VIP program from buying "resale" but alas the salesperson we spoke to in las vegas said it was not possible ( think he even mentioned that even when you sale your VIP points, the "program" does not transfer with them )

others , who are actual fairfield owners may have more up to date information

No resale points count for VIP threshholds at the present time.

If you are considering buying Wyn/FF, I ecourage you to join the Yahoo owners' group. Very great resource for information. The consensus is generally that VIP benefits are not worth the cost to acquire them, but you have to make that decision for yourself.

Just curious...what would 250,000 Wyndham/FF points cost (just an average guess) resale for Bonnet Creek?

Heather

"Regular" Wyndham resale points go from 1-2 cents per point. So, $5K or less.

However, Bonnet Creek deeds are relatively rare, as it is still a new resort---not much on the resale market yet. It trades at a premium; figure a 2-3X multiplier. However, unless you really want a 4BR Presidential for New Years Eve week, or something else in ridiculously high demand, you probably don't need to own there. It is a huge resort, with lots of availability, so the 3-month "home resort" head start isn't that big of a deal so far. For example, President's Week has been available to owners at other resorts for six weeks now, and there is still plenty there.

Remember with resale there are costs that vary with each seller(closing ,title and escrow) ...so please read the small print and ask questions.

There are a few websites that lists Wyndham/FF points for sale including Bonnet Creek...We bought our points on Ebay.

Here are more than a few listing for Bonnet Creek besides thoses listed on Ebay:

And do not sweat the "VIP" stuff. Unless you enjoy paying 70% more for a few minor privileges you can safely ignore VIP at Wyndham/Fairfield. Buy resale points for as low as you can find at a resort you wouldn't mind visiting and enjoy them.

I know that a resale does not give you vip but what happens when you buy additional points directly through wyn/ff. Meaning if you bought the additional pionts and that gave you enough points to be vip how does wyn/ff treat that situation. Are you now considered vip because you did by some points directly form wyn/ff.

By the way I don't really sweat the vip I'm just finding out ways to get around the system.

They may, it depends on the sales group you deal with, agree to count your resale points toward VIP if you buy more full freight points from them. But they set the additional purchase level so high that you almost lose the advantage of the original resale. Usually you have to buy one retail point for every resale point you want to convert. It may still work out cheaper than a straight retail buy but, IMHO, still not worth all the extra $$$ for the ever increasing points required for VIP. It s a game to keep owners buying more points and I refuse to play. If it seems worth it to you and you go in knowing the costs then I suppose it's OK. We've never had any trouble getting the resort/time/unit we wanted - no VIP involved. Points are points in the Wyndham system and thats one of its best features. The fact that they can be purchased at 30% or less of the retail cost because of Wyndham decisions is a bonus to buyers until they wake up and start supporting resale pricing. Right now resale is a great deal while retail is a total rip off.

So what minor perks DO you get if you are in the VIP program?

Great question - and the answer is "it depends". When we bought into what was then Fairfield over 12 years ago there was one VIP level. It got you some nice to have but not worth a lot of money things like early reservations at any resort rather than just your home resort 12 months out rather than 10 as "regular" members get. But there were limits and other gotcha's so it wasn't like you had priority over an owner. It had early check in and late check out if available and a free newspaper. It required 300,000 points to be VIP

Fast forward to 2007 and there are at least three different levels of VIP, and just exactly what they all get as "perks" is unclear to me. But I do know that the level has been raised to 500,000 and more to be Gold, Platinum or whatever else they have dreamed up. Yet the actual perks are very limited as they cannot step on the rights of the owners and cannot give anything of great value as someone has to pay for that and it can't come out of the general fees.

The bottom line is they have VIP simply to try to justify the extremely high cost of retail points and, since those points lose 70% of their value the day the rescind period ends, the high cost of retail points vs resale points for the ever changing and limited perks of VIP makes it a non-issue for us.

Thanks for explaining that. It sounds to me like most special deals offered by developers can't touch the reduced price if buying resale.

You are right that the VIP does not out weight the great price of a resale, However there are some advantages such as being able to reserve the 4 bedroom pres suite at bonnet creek. If your traveling with a huge amount of people you may need the extra months to reserve this type of room. Because from what I'm hearing the pres suites are hard to come by. Also if it is your thing to have a specific bedroom such as one that faces the lake, or a bedroom in tower 3, so you can see the fireworks from epicot then this is something you can do with VIP. Without VIP you can't get specific rooms you have to take what they give you.

However I just don't see these little perks costing me an xtra 10,000-20,000 dollars. A wyn/ff salesperson may try to say that with VIP program you receive unlimited house keeping credits but your still getting hosed in that deal because your paying more in maintanance fees.

I have seen 300,000 points being sold for 9,000 dollars online. I did not call anyone directly but this is just what I have seen. Through wyn/ff 300,000 would be in the area of 35,000 dollars or more.

If you reserve a 4BD at Bonnet Creek you'd get the Presidential suite as those are the only 4BR they have. I wouldn't use all those points to get it but, if I had them to burn, it sure is a nice unit! We have stayed at the ones at the Grand Desert (Las Vegas) and the penthouse unit at Royal Vista (Fl coast - right on the beach!) with our "regular" membership. Didn't need no stinkin' VIP to get 'em. I agree 100% with the cost exceeding the (potential) value of VIP by a BIG margin.
