Can I just throw this in the crock pot and have pulled chicken sandwiches at the end of the day? It seems to me that the sauce would loose too much liquid so maybe I should add a few ingredients? Help?!

When I do it, I add just the chicken (and maybe some garlic, onions, or other seasonings) and cook that first. Then about a half hour or hour before supper I drain it, shred the chicken and add the bbq sauce. Mmmm, that sounds good, I may have to make a batch this weekend! :thumbsup2

Yep, but I usually season my chicken first with salt, pepper and onion powder. BUt still easy breezy and yummy!

dont put bbq in the crock pot it will burn! Anything with sugar in it does not fare well for slow cooking.

Just put the chicken in, I usually add some salt/pepper and a little chicken broth and some onions on the bottom and cook it. ABout a half hour before you want to eat, take the chicken out and shred it, dump the leftover broth/juice out of the crock pot and put the chicken back in. Put bbq sauce on at that point and cook just until heated.

Also, a really good easy thing is also chicken breasts and a jar of salsa, that you can cook all day it wont burn. Makes great for using for tacos, enchiladas, salads, etc.

I've been making pulled pork in the crockpot with bbq sauce for years, and it's never burned. I add an 8 ounce can of tomato sauce, small can of diced chili's, cumin, chili powder, and a sliced onion.

Ive never had it burn, either. Couple of chicken breasts, jar of bbq sauce, onions, peppers, and a can of pineapple because I like mine like that. It comes out of the crock pot falling apart.

The key to not having it burn is to add some extra liquid. Notice most of the ones who don't have a problem are adding tomato sauce or pineapple. I add some extra chicken broth and normally don't use the whole sauce bottle unless it is a small one. The broth thins it out so if I use the whole bottle it ends up with too much sauce at the end.:goodvibes

I've never had it burn and I just do the chicken breasts and 1 bottle of BBQ sauce. I only cook it about 3.5 hrs on high.

Thanks for starting this thread - I defrosted chicken breasts yesterday, and didn't know what I was going to do with them. They're in the crockpot.

I've never had BBQ sauce burn in my crockpot and I only toss in chicken and BBQ sauce. I cook for about 4 hours and then shred right in the pot.

I have never had anything burn in my crock pot and I do this regularly. I just put the chicken in the crock pot, add some seasonings, pour on the BBQ sauce and hit cook. come back later and it's all ready to go.

I put either pork or chicken into the crock pot on low in the morning with BBQ sauce, it never burns and it is ready to shred in the evening when I come home.

This is exactly what I do. It's normally in the crockpot for around 9.5 hours.

I've never had it burn, and I do this regularly. The only thing I add is sliced onions and peppers, plus the barbecue sauce (we like Sweet Baby Ray's).

BTW, you can even start with frozen chicken--just add a couple extra hours of cooking time.

We usually have this in sandwiches, but if you have leftovers, you could put it over rice. Or, put it on flatbread/pizza dough/pizza shell, and top with sliced red onions, cheddar cheese, and fresh cilantro. Bake, and voila! Gourmet barbecue chicken pizza.

I do this and yes it does come out too watery! Reserve half of your BBQ sauce for just before you eat or it will be too watery.

That's what I do, I use frozen chicken breasts and they cook on low for at least 7 hrs, never had it burn or get dry.

GREAT idea! Thank you!!!

:thumbsup2 I cook in the crock pot with bbq sauce on high all the time and put it in at the beginning without ever having it burn. It leaves it nice and moist and tender too with nothing but the bbq, onion, garlic and some pealed and cut potatoes. If you cook it long enough it is not watery either.
