Boma??

The article does reference the buffet is being regularly watched and maintained, as well as the utensils being changed frequently.
I miss Jiko too. That's always a must do for us.
And that's, I guess better, than nothing and may be enough for some people... personally I'll be interested to see how that works since clearly they aren't switching out utensils between guests and there remain lots of "finger foods".

Fingers crossed for Jiko!

One thing I know is that COVID is not commonly spread through surface contact. Not to say that it doesn't happen, but it's much more likely through respiratory droplets in the air.

I plan to mask up, use the tongs, and hand sanitizer when I get back to the table after visiting the buffet. We have dinner scheduled for Mid sept!

Looking at the pictures that have been released, it looks to me like a lot of the items will individually plated, single serving size, so you would just need to pick up a serving and go, no need for tongs, etc.

Great news! Boma is re-opening for you on August 20 and will be better than ever! We at Disney have heard what our guests are telling us and they no longer want to wait in long lines to get individual items at buffets. So you'll soon be able to enter into your smart phone what food items you want most into Genie+ plus and we'll do the thinking for you! Do you like carbs? Then expect a magical seaweed pancake or some fresh pumpkin spice french toast to appear on your family-style platter! Prefer protein, well get ready for some octopus and spicy chicken wings on your plate!

For guests who don't want to wait for their favorite items, there will be two tiers of our finest foods you'll be able to access more easily! And with Lightening Lane (only $10 per person!), they'll be able to go right up to the counter and select from some of over a dozen of our nearly most popular items. But what if you REALLY want Zebra Domes? If this is what you really desire and you want it now, you'll be able to simply go to Genie+ and tell our magical food delivery fairies that this is what you desire and for just $6 per item we'll make your culinary dreams come true! We've been listening and we know that this is what you want without all the waiting for individual buffet items, free parking at resorts, free airport transportation, and confusing new e-ticket attractions at each park every year. TTFN!

No, really the only items that were single serve this morning were the avocado/papaya/grapefruit salad and the yogurt parfait. Everything else is just as it was before, so you need to use serving spoons, tongs, etc. (not the carving station). Hand sanitizers available and masks required when you go up. There’s a small sign noting the risks of a buffet but that’s all.

The one thing that will kill it for me is if they no longer have the 4 or 5 soup/stew choices. I ate so much Butternut Squash soup I made myself ill :rolleyes1. All the African touches (Bobitie. Fufu, frunch etc) made this such a "Dining experience". My DH and I honeymooned for 6 weeks in Africa so the AKL and Boma hold a special place in our hearts. Glad to see it re-opened in time for our fall trip. 🤞fingers crossed reports on the Dinner Buffet will be positive. Stay tuned....

Please tell me Boma still has Chakalaka and Pap on the breakfast buffet. I could eat that stuff everyday!

DFB has the Boma Dinner menu on its website. The soups are there!!! You can see photos of all the stations. The only thing that I can see missing is the Hummus.

Just booked a long weekend trip in October. No dinner reservations to be had at Boma at this late date.

Do availabilities tend to open up as the date draws near? Is it just a matter of keeping watch on it and pounce if an opening happens? Or is that very rare and unlikely?

Oftentimes things open up the day before or day of, just keep checking, people change their plans all the time.

I just got back from the Boma dinner. It was as amazing as ever!
Everything was very clean. Everyone was wearing masks. They had hand sanitizer everywhere.

And, of course, it was delicious!
