We are going to be at Animal Kingdom one day in March and we were thinking that we would head over to BOMA at the Animal Kingdom Lodge at 5pm for dinner.

Questions:

- how long will it take to get to AKL?
- Is BOMA worth the trip to another Lodge (we are staying at Coranado)?
- What is the best way to get back to Coronado from AKL? Buses dont go Resort to Resort do they?

Thanks

It's a 3 min bus ride from the AK park to the AKL.

Yes it's worth it!

It's a 5 min cab from the AKL to CSR. Bus service IMHO will take to long.

We did this on Thanksgiving day. It doesn't take long to get there at all from Animal Kingdom. We went by Disney bus and it seemed like it only took a few minutes.

Would it be worth it? Not to us. We hated Boma. It was overly crowded (could not move around in the place)--seems like too many tables in too little space. The service was horrible. We saw our waiter when he brought our drinks and never again until we ASKED another waiter if we could get our bill. And we did not like the food at all. This, of course, is a matter of personal taste because it is African styled food--but it was cold. This is the only resteraunt we have eaten at in WDW that we really just did not like anything about it.

We have done this exact plan every time we go to AK. It is so easy to get there if you are already at AK. Just take the bus that says AKL and you will be there in a jiffy. It is cumbersome to get back to CSR from AKL. We ended up splurging for a cab. It was worth the money b/c transferring buses would have taken us at least 1- 1.5 hrs to get back. We love Boma! It is the #1 must do restaurant for our entire party of 6. It makes my mouth water thinking about it. The food is very flavored and so interesting. If you are a plain meat and potatoes then it may not be for you. Have fun!

We love Boma and go every chance we get. Just ate there Saturday night and loved it. Yes, it can get crowded. We prefer earlier dining since it usually isn't as crowded. The AKL is also beautiful. We usually spend another hour after dinner just checking out the animals, lobby and gift shop.

If AK is still open after you finish dinner you can take a bus back to AK and then another bus to Coronado or take a cab as others have suggested. We usually drive our own car so this isn't a problem.

I think we will be at AK right until 5pm - but our ADRs arent until 620pm....can we walk around the Lodge and see the animals?? This isnt just for hotel guests?

You can walk around the lobby and out the back of the lobby to see the animals. There are usually CM's out there answering questions and pointing out different/hidden animals. There is also a hidden Mickey on the rocks. This is for all guests at the lodge, not just for those staying at the lodge.

You can also check in as soon as you get there if you want to eat early. I have usually been able to be seated earlier there than most ADR's. Even if you don't get seated early they will give you a pager - not sure how far it works but you could still roam around some while waiting.

Yes there are viewing areas to see the animals. We love Boma and usually go there at least once every trip. I cannot wait for our first stay at Jumbo. YooWhoo Boma first night.

Defininitely worth it, IMO. It's our only repeat on our upcoming trip. We go on AK day, then cab back to All Star Movies. To our resort, cab cost $6. Well worth it!!! Yum, can't wait to go back!!!

We had dinner at Boma on Saturday night. Stayed at AK until it closed at 5:00, walked to the bus and took it to AKL, and then after dinner, took the bus to DTD. We stayed at POR, so when we left DTD, we took the boat back. We all really enjoyed the different food, and I particularly enjoyed my "adult-beverage" - a tropical mint mojito!:thumbsup2

The bus ride to AKL was all of 5 minutes from AK.

We haven't been at Boma and it looks here that the place is great. I'll be listing it in our plan list and try it in our next.

Have a nice day everyone. :)

LOVED Boma. We also found the trip from AK to AKL very fast. To get back we took the bus from AKL to MK and then to our resort, it was not a horribly long trip and worked well for us.

Boma is a buffet. the soups and deserts are exceptional. i didn't care for the chicken but the beef is very nice. if you have the time, there is a bar with waterfall and view that is very nice. It is one of our Favorites.

we stay at BWV so we grab the EPCOT or DHS bus and walk back.

JMO but we didn't care for Boma. We won't be going back there. Everyone has their own taste and what I might like you won't and visa versa.

My DH and I decided to try Boma because I had read so much good about it. We are not picky eaters in the least and we did not care for it at all. Agree with PP who said it was crowded.
We loved the AKL however and can't wait to stay there.

I thought the beef loin and chicken were FAB, as was the coconut curry chicken soup. The carrot soup was too icky sweet. Most of the sides/salads were alright/eh (lentil salad, taters w/afritude, coconut rice) to gross (watermelon rind salad). The desserts were alright - I enjoyed the chocolate mousse, coconut tirmisu and the casava cake, but nothing else was all that great. And I tasted a bit of them all, with the help of my DH.
The Tusker Ale was good - like a light American lager - and DH liked the Savannah (?) draft (kind of like Bass or Harp).
I would definitely go back again. The beef alone is worth the price of admission.
Our ADR was for 5 pm and it was not crowded, but was fairly full, on Jan. 20th.

Boma is one of those places that people either seem to love or they dont. After DH and I tried it several years ago and LOVED it (highlight of our trip) he recomended it to SIL and BIL. They HATED it. I took my Mom and she loved it. DH, DS, Mom and I went back this past May and once again we loved it. SIL and BIL were on the May trip but refused to go to Boma.

It's a must do for all our trips. We'll be there for our last night meal for my 40th birthday extravaganza in March. YUM!

Very easy to get to from AK (couple minute drive, just need to allow waiting time for bus pick-up); depending on time you are done with dinner and whether any of the parks are still open will determine if you can get a bus to that park and a bus back to your resort; it was our favorite meal - but, you will get diverse opinions on the food as many af the dishes are cooked with unique sauces, spices - but there is a lot to choose from and even picky eaters should find some things they like; our service was very good, CM even gave DW some printed recipes for some dishes DW liked; it was crowded, but most of the popular Disney restaurants are; there was a fairly long line for the buffet - not sure if this was from the fact that we had an early ADR when dinner started and a lot of people arriived at the same time.
