We are planning on going to AK on 11/14--it opens at 9am and closes at 5pm.
WE have a 10 ADR for the Tusker House Character Breakfast
Which ADR should we keep for BOMA? 4:50 or 6:40---
I would like to ride rides until is closes at 5....but what will we do until 6:40?? We are a party of 7---3 are children ages 8-6- and 2 1/2.
Also---Does BOMA have enough food choices for "somewhat picky children and my dad is also picky---a meat and potatoes kind of man. :) Thanks! I need to cancel one of my dinner ADR's soon!

I will address the adr time first.

If AK closes at 5pm and you want to ride up until close that is perfect. Take your time getting out of the park. If you leave the park by 5:30-5:45 you should be to the resort in time, but not to early. Even though it is only a 5 min bus ride, when you leave at close it can often take 2-3 buses before you get on one. Not to mention the crowds all leaving at the same time....congestion. So that takes double the time.
And finally if you are a 1/2 hour early or so, take a look around. The gift shop is huge and can easily eat 30mins.

Now for the other question, in my opinion your dad will have a very hard time finding something.
Everything, including the meats are flavored with spices of sweet nature. Like cinnamon and all spice. Yes, they rub it on the meat.
I am a meat and potato girl and hated this buffet.
It was very hard for me to find anything that I liked. I ate things off the kids buffet that were so bland, but I was left hungry.

Now I don't say the food was bad, just not for my taste. I do not like my meat (all meats, chicken, beef...etc), potatoes and soups tasting like a holiday dessert.

So that is my experience. :)

Boma is one of my favorite Disney World restaurants. At our last visit my son was almost 4 and my daughter was 8. They are both pretty picky (as is my husband) and we all loved it! There was plenty for all of us there, and we're looking forward to dining there again on our Thanksgiving week trip. :goodvibes

I didn't feel the meats, soups and potatoes all "tasted like holiday desserts," but I can confirm that many of them ARE unusually spiced (but I like that!). If your dad is picky and likes his food plain, he may not be a big fan of Boma.

As to the "holiday dessert" thing ... it really, really, really depends on what you eat. For example, at dinner at Boma, I had a meal of the following:
falafel with mustard sauce
pita breads and hummus (2 kinds of each)
nut-crusted salmon (I think it was walnuts)
spicy seafood stew with pearl couscous
fufu
chakalaka (curried tomatoes and onions) and pap (like soft cornbread)
curried green beans
cucumber and watermelon salad
hearts of palm salad
desserts: zebra domes, mini cheesecake, cassava cake, banana bread pudding, peach cobbler, passionfruit mousse, mocha chocolate pudding square

Other than a couple of the actual desserts, only the fufu (mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes swirled together) had any cinnamon in it at all.

There is plenty of basic things at Boma, even for picky meat and potato eaters, your father will be just fine.

As for 4:50 or 6:40 choose based on whether or not your children will last that long. I don't know your family, but based on the ages of the children the 4:50 seems best. AK is a large hot park getting them to the cooler resort and eating by 5pm may save lots of angst in a party of 7.

I suggest taking in the parade then either heading out. The parade used to be at 4:15 and last less than 20 minutes. AKL is only a 5 minute ride and we had no issues with transportation from the park to the hotel.

You'll have plenty of time to ride and see AK given your all day schedule, many do AK in just half a day.

AKL is such a pretty resort! If you get there early you can always check out the largest collection of African artwork or walk right outside to sit and view the animals. And lots of time they have free activities for the little ones to do in the lobby until your dinner time if you pick the later time.
