Boma Wasn't That Great.

We ate at Boma on 12/4 and it just wasn't that great. The price also went up from $26.99 to $28.99 per adult and that was not holiday pricing either. It was noisy, crowded and took forever to get your food. I think I prefer Tusker House instead. There may be fewer choices but it was cheaper and nicer. I liked the selections at Tusker House better as well. True, I wasn't feeling very well but the food just didn't appeal to me at Boma. The waiter was great and brought me some hot tea for my throat. He also brought us a special dessert plate for our anniversary. That was really nice.

We did the culinary tour before we went that night and the Boma portion was terrible. The girl didn't want to bothered with it and only told us what was on the menu that night. I got to try the lamb stew and a zebra dome which was nice. No one but DH and I went over to Jiko for that portion. The waiter there was wonderful. He explained the restaurant to us and we had a nice chat. Also, since it was just DH and me he let us take back to our room the leftover breads and dips since he was just going to have to throw it away. That was really nice.

I have done Boma several times, I agree with what you are saying for dinner time. The best time in my opinion to go is for breakfast, it is cheaper and it is fantastic. My wife and I have been there for breakfast at least ten times.

We ate at Boma on 12-1 and didn't care for it either.
DH and I were expecting more spice than sweet and wasn't prepared for the sweetness of all the dishes. Even the meat was sweet. :confused3
It was ok, not horrible, but it definitely isn't for us. I wasn't that overwhelmed with the restaurant itself as well, just lacked something I thought.

We ate ate Boma, well, it was a long time ago now, and we really didn't care for it, either. The soups and stews were very yummy, and the hummus was good, but that was all we enjoyed. We didn't "get" the big fuss about zebra domes, and "watermelon rind salad"...what the heck is up with THAT!? Fortunately, there was enough of the few things we did like to fill us up.

We are staying at AKL for 4 nights this summer, and we are going to give Boma another try with open minds. We think that we either hit it on a bad night, or our feeling a little "under the weather" might have affected our taste for the food.

Thanks for posting your opinion!

Hi All!

I'm sorry about your bad experience at Boma. We always go to BOMA and have a great experience. We think the food there is awesome and we also think it's the best buffet at Disney. Try going when you are feeling better, maybe you will have a nicer experience.

take care.

I have to agree with the above posts. I thought it was just me because I have read some good reviews. I just didn't like the food and I thought the deserts were lacking.

We really enjoyed our meal at Boma but that was awhile ago now. We thought it offered some different food choices from elsewhere on property and that the dishes were quite tasty. Our service was exactly what we expected for a buffet. We, too, got a special dessert for our celebration. I would go back. It is too bad that you didn't like it and it's never nice when prices go up.

I am curious about the culinary tour that you did. What is it? That sounds like something my DH would love.

We went two years ago and thought it was o.k.The layout was a bit confusing, service was meh and when we went to get a drink at the bar and said to the server "How are you?",he said "I'm going to dinner!".Wasn't impressed

We went in May and really enjoyed it. I don't even want to count how many times I went up to the buffet. We tend to be adventurous eaters though. My DS3, DD5 and DS10 even eat hot sauce on their pizza. :confused3

We've never done Boma for dinner (and won't), but have done breakfast and love it. I've read reviews of Boma and it's usually 50/50 for like/dislike for dinner.

Recently had breakfast at Boma and really enjoyed it. It's much cheaper at breakfast for one. It was also a later sitting which was nice because it was quieter. I've walked by several times at dinner and don't think that I could enjoy all the commotion.

At almost $30 a person for dinner I do expect a really great meal and can understand where it's easy not to get your value in that especially if you end up feeling like cattle.

In September we went to Boma and I must admit I was VERY excited to be there... but the food was just not as good as the raving reviews had said. I tried nearly every item on the buffet and found two items I liked. One was an actual Boma dish... the other was the Pasta from the childrens pod.

I even tried all the desserts hoping to find the key to raving reviews... but just wasn't impressed.

That's a real shame - I enjoyed our meal a lot (I think it was so pleased to see the abundance of salads that we had been missing). The crowds at the buffet time though can be long though.
