I have a free (solo) morning/afternoon and want to go check out some of the resorts I have not seen. I'm thinking AKL for breakfast, any reason I should spend the extra money to eat at Boma instead of The Mara? I'm thinking I would not eat enough at the buffet to make up the difference.

I also have a free evening after spending some time at Typhoon Lagoon and would like to eat at a different resort. I'm staying at the Swan, have stayed at POR, have eaten at Boardwalk and GF. Something that wouldn't be too difficult travel wise. QS or ADR. Maybe a place with good people watching since I'll be by myself. Thanks!

My ADR's for the trip so far are Morimotos and Tiffins

If you are not a big eater and don't like buffets, then don't spend the money on Boma. The Mara is a good QS place but it's just that. QS. Go over to Kidani Village and have breakfast at Sanaa.

If you are staying at the Swan, it would be a short trip to Disney Springs. Go to the Boathouse. You won't be disappointed.

Hmm, maybe I should grab a granola bar, wander around AKL, make a slightly later breakfast reservation at Boma and make it my brunch :) French toast bread pudding (insert Homer Simpson drool noise here). I also read something about a fried banana toast? Or is it one and the same?

I did a solo breakfast at Boma a few years ago, and it was wonderful!

For dinner, I really like the Flying Fish bar. The bartenders are wonderful and I usually meet really nice people there!

That sounds like the Tonga Toast from Kona Cafe at the Polynesian. You can also get it at Captain Cooks, which is the QS place at the Polynesian. :)

Ah yes, got my yummy sounding breakfasts mixed up! That was the other place I was thinking about hitting for breakfast. Thanks.

Boma breakfast is the best!! Mara is good but I agree with the other poster, they're not comparable.

Depends what you are looking for. If you want a light breakfast, Boma is not the place, and Mara is a much better option. If you want to try lots of different foods and are hungry, then Boma is your place. Both are good, but for different reasons.

As others have said, you just can't compare Boma and Mara - it's like fast food vs. dining. Mara is fine when you want a quick bite. Boma is more of an experience. It has a wonderful buffet with lots of interesting and delicious options... but you definitely have to be hungry! We usually do Boma breakfast on a leisurely resort day and schedule it on the later side so it's more of a brunch.

We enjoyed both Boma and Mara, but Mara was best for us when we were in a hurry to make rope drop. We opted for Boma on our departure day when we wanted a more leisurely and relaxing breakfast. Since this is your free time to explore the resort, I would go for Boma. It's one of the more popular resort TS restaurants as well.

As for a dinner spot after Typhoon Lagoon, I think Caribbean Beach and Saratoga Springs are the closest resorts. But neither have any stand-out dining, IMO. Old Key West is also not far and people rave about Olivia's Cafe, though I've never tried it myself. From SSR you can walk to Disney Springs and from OKW you can take the boat there, if you wanted to stop for a drink and some people watching perhaps.

Thanks for the input! I made a reservation for Boma, mid morning so I'll chow down and count it at lunch too ;)
nkereina, thanks, I might check out OKW/DS
