Hi,

When I stay at the AKL (hopefully it works out and I can still go), I plan to eat at Jiko one night and get the grains & vegetable entree, but what about when I go to Boma?

Is there stuff at Boma, for a vegetarian? I'm just a vegetarian, not vegan, so dairy is ok. I read one site suggested there was plenty, while another suggested there was not a lot. The one site even seem to suggest the meat stuff was confined to one pod?

Thanks for your advice.

Boma is absolutely the best restaurant with the widest choices for a vegetarian. I will often take out of town friends there as an example of what to do.

It also happens to be great for people who at home keep Kosher and try to avoid meats when travelling (and they can't keep Kosher).

Tell your server that you are a vegetarian. Usually the chef will walk you through the buffet line and help you with your choices.

That's what my sister did when we went to Boma. My husband is diabetic, so when the chef came over he went over the buffet for both of them.

Boma is my sister's favorite restaurant followed by the Crystal Palace. Both offer alot of choices.

We've had lousy service at Boma dinner both times we've been there. The vegetarian selections are okay, but the first time we couldn't even get anyone to show us what was and was not vegetarian (long story---very insulting).
The second time our server and the chef she brought out were disinterested at best. We're a friendly group and we tip well---I know sometimes I see reviews and it seems that the poster may not have been too nice. We are very inoffensive. I don't think being three women helped us, though.

AND FYI---many, many, many of the desserts have gelatin, and the chef we had didn't volunteer that info; we had to ask.

I am vegetarian and boma is my FAVORITE restaurant!! if you are confused just ask your server or a chef and they will gladly walk you around and tell you what is vegetarian, and I know there is plenty there. they have really good hummus and you have GOT to try the butternut squash soup, it is amazing. it's like eating a bowl of heaven. ;) I *think* they serve that on tuesdays and fridays unless they have changed their rotation. I hope not because that i'd be so sad if there was no butternut squash soup when i go in sept.

tricia.

There's a ton of stuff for vegetarians at Boma. I didn't ask to be walked through the buffet, but it seems to be a common occurrence. Except for the desserts, it's easy to tell what's veggie and what isn't.

Jiko, though, hasn't gotten very good reviews for the veggie entree--bland and dry are some of the critiques I've seen. The appetizers that are veggie do get :thumbsup2, fortunately.

Thanks Laura. So from the names of the dishes you didn't have too hard of a time?

Were they any desserts that weren't gelatin then? Anything simple and easy to tell? ha-ha.

Hi
I'm veggie and didn't really like Bomas. I don't know if it was the chef, but one of the people that worked there behind the counter came out and walked me through to show me all the stuff that was veggie. I know most people love Boma, but the night that we were there, the food was lukewarm, bordering on cold. (It was supposed to be hot). Also, a lot of the food tasted sweet. There were raisins in the rice. My girlfriend eats meat and said that the prime ribe was very good, but that was about all she liked also. The butternut squash soup was really good, but wasn't hot enough for me. Anyway, you have to try it for yourself. You might love it. Have fun!!:goodvibes

My boyfriend and I are both vegetarian and we love Boma. I even got the recipe for a few things (kofta and the pureed veggie soup) that I make now at home. We are amazed at all the vegetarian choices and have not had problems with the food temperature.

One year, after Chef TJ showed us all the options for vegetarians on the buffet, he told us... "Don't eat too much. I have a surprise for you." About 20 minutes later he personally delivered to our table a HUGE entree that was kind of a basket of vegetables with marinated, baked tofu on skewers sticking out. It's hard to describe, but one of the most amazing vegetarian entrees I've ever seen, let alone eaten.

Boma is a Never Miss for these vegetarians.

My good friend is vegetarian and said Boma, is a MUST on her trips but also recommends it to those that are not vegetarian.

Her and her dd love Boma! (The dd is vegetarian as well):)

From just looking at the food, reading some of the recipes online and knowing what some of the dishes are, I didn't feel like I needed to ask if something was vegetarian. It seems of all the WDW restaurants, Boma has the most recipes posted online. I also knew that there's one vegetarian soup every night--the nights I went it was Carrot Ginger and Butternut Squash.

Yes, there are desserts with gelatin in them, but I stuck to obviously gelatin-free stuff like bread pudding or the Flourless Chocolate Cake (which if you see on the buffet, grab some). I was pretty full and the desserts weren't all that spectacular. They get rave reviews, but to me most of the desserts were not exactly all that--except the Flourless Chocolate Cake; that stuff is fantastic. I knew the Zebra Domes and Cocomisu have gelatin from reading the recipes. Anything with "mousse" I just assumed had gelatin.

I knew if I had any doubts, I could pipe up and ask, but it seemed obvious to me what was okay and what wasn't--mostly because I was really obsessive about researching the place. If it isn't obvious to you, you should definitely speak up!

Thank you so much. I didn't know there were recipes online. I'll certainly visit Boma now, to at least give it a try! :)

My daughter is a vegetarian and loves BOMA - in addition she is also allergic to nuts.... she always finds food to eat there.... it is always on her list of requests when we are making ADRs....

Yes, that's what they did for us. They are SO nice and helpful.

Boma is one of our favorites...Jiko being #1.

As with most families, we have meat lovers, vegetarians and those with special diet requirements. That being said, Boma is the hands down favorite of my whole family. I love the chicken and ribs while my wife digs into the soups and salads. My married daughter, who eats little or no meat, adores the various grain dishes. One of my grandsons is allergic to egg whites. The chef ponted out what he could safely eat, and then went one better by bringing a platter of 'egg free' desserts right to our table. Boma is always #1 on our 'must do' restaurants.

Chef TJ is the BEST!! I'm a vegetarian (DH is an eateverythingian) and TJ did the same thing for us last March. He also sent over his famous fried Oreos dessert platter. Soooo delicious! When we left, we made a point of stopping by the line and thanking him for making our dinner such a wonderful experience. He gave us his business card and told us to email him the next time we visit.

A week before our visit last September, we emailed him to let him know which night we were planning to visit Boma and he replied back the next day to say he would be off that day but to ask for Chef Allison (one of his assistants). We did and she made us the same dish (and fried Oreo dessert) and once again it was a wonderful experience.

We love Boma and never miss it when we go to WDW.

Chef TJ was who assisted my husband and sister in their selections. After they went through the line with him, he say at our table for a good 15 minutes just chatting. He was delightful.
