We are staying at POP and have reservations at Boma on a night when HS closes early 6pm. Our ressie at Boma is for 6:30 and if we linger and such, cant think we will be done before around 8:30. I think the usual transport would be bus for AKL to HS bus to POP. Now are either bus to DTD first or bus to Epcot. Epcot and MK are the only parks open at this time so, I think it might be pretty crowded people getting out of there and such at that time. DTD wouldnt be too bad I guess but its longer travel time ( not counting waiting for bus ). question....
Should I switch my plans and ressies to the following night when HS is open so we can go that route for transportation back to POP???

Is there that much of a difference? Frequency of buses etc? thank you

I would pick any park over DTD to get back to my hotel. Neither Epcot or MK is close to AKL, but I would pick either one of these parks to transfer to, catch whatever bus is first. From MK, the ride may be around 25 minutes, about the same for Epcot. If you are close the park's closing time, I'd pick the park that has the later hours, so you are not with the waiting end of park time masses.

DTD buses are always very crowded, stop everywhere, and many many complain about them. At night, I would think it would be even more crowded.

Enjoy Boma! We liked it enough 3 years ago, we are trying it again this summer. AKL is also a beautiful resort. If it is dark, ask for the night vision glasses to see if there are any animals out on the savanas.

A cab would be the easiest and most direct way to go. Not sure, as I do not usually use a cab, but I would think less than 20 dollars.

I subbed to this because I was also curious if anyone had any ideas on this. We made the mistake of using the DTD bus and it took forever to get back to POP. We went from AK to AKL, ate at Boma, took DTD bus, then DTD to POP. Once at DTD, we waited a good 30-45 minutes at least to get a bus back to POP. This was due to the crowds and time of night. But I would still never go that route again. Fortunately this time around, we will have a car with us so we are just going to drive to AKL and then back to POP.

I think you'll be fine making your switch from Epcot. I would most definitely not switch from DTD. Very time consuming to say the least.

We always rent a car but decided for our upcoming trip in April to save some money and take Disney Transportation for the first time ever! Thank you for posting b/c my ONLY hesitation in giving up the rental car was figuring out how to get from Boma back to Wilderness Lodge. At first I cancelled our Boma ADRs but it was killing us not to go as it is our fave restaurant at Disney. So I just re-booked Boma last week and figured we will take a cab back to our resort! :thumbsup2

Why are the DTD buses so bad? Is it just at night or is it also during the day? We plan to spend our last day at DTD and will prob go from about 10am-2pm...

I have had no issues coming back from DTD after spending time there. It only seems to be a bus issue when the parks are closing and trying to use it as a transfer point between resorts.

Does anyone know approximately how much a cab costs from AK to MK?

You can try to use the Mears Taxi Fare estimator. I couldn't find a physical address for Animal Kingdom, but according to the estimator it would be about $21 to get from MK to AKL (which is pretty close to AK). When going from AK to MK, the taxi will take you to the TTC. You can ask to be taken to the Contemporary and then walk over to the MK.

To the OP, if it were me, I would also take a taxi. While it'll cost money, it'll be much faster than trying to use Disney transportation.

I agree with other posters, the problem with DTD is that in the evenings, when other parks are closing or when DTD is closing it becomes really tough to use the buses. I typically stay at one of the Epcot area resorts, and those are notoriously bad (probably because up to five hotels share a bus). I would avoid using DTD as a transfer point at all costs!
