Boma Question

Hi,
We added 2 days on to our trip at AKV, which opens up some dining possibilites I hadn't considered before.

I really want to try Boma, (Jiko or Saana really, but no way I can get my crew there). My DS isn't just a picky eater, he has some sensory issues so I have a strange question about Boma...

Does it smell strong of spices?

Even if it smells nice, but strong it might be difficult for him (think Starbucks, he won't eat a cookie there because of the coffee smell).

I saw the menu and am confident I can find food for the picky ones to eat.

Thanks,
Heather

I don't recall any really strong smells that were strange there. Just really like a normal buffet ( there must be some smells, but nothing unusual ). It's a big restaurant, too. You might want to ask for a quieter table by the windows -- it will be much calmer and there will be less "smells" from there. HTH!:)

I don't recall any strong smells, either. We were seated far from the buffet, which wasn't ideal for us, but may be a request you could make. I think it's fine for picky eaters. There are plenty of "plain" options, maybe with a fancy name. I would caution you, however, if he has other sensory issues, the room can be overwhelming with noise and it does feel like you are very close to the person next to you.

There was never an issue with smell of spices but make sure you try the soups. They are soooo delicious and ask them for any recipes of the food that you like as they will e-mail them to you

Great, thanks for the quick responses.

And thanks for the heads up about the close tables and noise level.

I'm pretty good at preparing him for the crowds and noise, but was taken off-guard last trip by his reaction to some smells. Casey's caused a melt-down and we were just walking by. (Sauerkraut) So I'm trying to be extra sensitive this year.

Boma is now on my (yet to be trimmed) list. :thumbsup2

I am a pickey eater and I like it. I did have a allergy issue with the sweet potaoes years ago. What ever they put in there set me & my son off on a major sneezing frennzy . So now when we go I stay clear of them.
Love Boma .

Boma smells fantastic, and you don't have to set foot in the restaurant to smell it. I don't really recall smelling the spices though. I think it's more of a smoky, barbecue or grilled deliciousness smell.
