My DH and I and 2 grandkids (ages 8 & 5 ) have ADR's here during our upcoming Sept. trip. None of us have ever eaten there. I have looked at the menu on Allears..and booked the ADR because of all the positive reviews here and in books. My question is- I have a shellfish allergy. At the food stations or buffet ares..Is the food labeled? If it is an african name...how will I know what's in it? I'd hate to be asking someone every few minutes as I look at the choices...but will of course for my safety! Also what are the favorite things your kids have enjoyed so I will have good recommendations for my grandkids.

My husband is also allergic to shellfish. We ate at Boma and he had no problems. Tell them at check in about your allergy (actually they asked us) and then they offered to have a chef walk him through the line. (My husband declined...he just stuck to steak and prime rib anyway!)

Yes, the food is labeled with the title of the item, not specifically what's in it. They are in English. I do remember a seafood stew or soup that had mussles and other stuff in it, but I dont remember a whole lot of seafood there. More chicken, steak, prime rib, and rice. There are, however, chefs standing nearby (I think it was one per station) that were there specifically to answer your questions. The one that I talked to explained the different sauces for the prime rib to me and seemed eager to answer questions. The prime rib was fabulous, BTW. As for the children, they did have an American station with chicken tenders, fries, mac and cheese, and pasta and spaghetti sauce with meat balls. we have three children under the age of 10 and they had no problem finding food to eat and were very willing to try some new items. They also had an awesome fruit selection (melons, strawberries, pineapple, oranges) and had several mixed green salads. Definitely save room for the desserts. I really think we tried all of them and there were at least 15 different choices.

If you have any more questions, let me know as we were just there last week! HTH

We ate there last week and loved it. There is a traditional kids' line with chicken fingers, mac 'n' cheese, and pasta. There are also quartered peanut butter and jelly sandwiches which my 7 year old devoured. For kids' dessert, there are fresh homemade looking cookies that my oldest said were as good as mine (and he loves mine) so it's a really good place to eat for kids. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

The food was definitely among the best of our trip. My husband talks about the small fruit tarts he ate so many of!

One thing, though: just like Animal Kingdom itself, the lodge does not have straws for drinks. They gave my kids their milks in coffee cups with the lid for sipping which worked fine.

I have seen the chef walk through the whole buffet with someone who had a food allergy. So just tell them when you get seated and the chef will take you through the complete buffet and tell you wants safe for you to eat. Enjoy! Boma is amazing.
