My family really is not into authentic foods. We love meats, but do they taste weird? Also dd loves mashed potatos do they have this? We usually do Chef Meckeys every year but we would love to check out Animal kingdom resort. What were your opinions on the food at Bomas?

I'm going for the first time in August, but my understanding is that there are some pretty mild and American-ized selections. We're looking forward to our dinner there.

I am a VERY picky eater. BF is an adventurous eater. This was a great place for us. I could ry stuff if I wanted but I had alot of "non authentic" food as well. They have stuff for kids too...the usual staples..mac n cheese and chix fingers. You really should go! This is a never miss for us! We will be there in Aug!

We were worried about Boma. We like different kinds of food, but had never tried African. After asking around, we went for it.

This was our favorite dinner of our trip! Even our daughter loved it!

There are so many things to try, plus they had prime rib, chicken strips, mac and cheese, desserts, that you shouldn't have a problem. There are lots of salads, too, and they were great!

When I asked about Boma at the concierge desk at the GF, the woman said -- It's my favorite! The best dinner on the property! The man standing next to her said -- I hated it! So, you'll get lots of opinions.

Give it a try. We were so blown away by the AKL that we want to stay there next time we go to WDW!

:yay:

Good for your for wanting to try something different! Boma is our hands-down, absolute favorite restaurant at WDW. Can't really speak to the meat question since I'm a vegetarian, but dh is a carnivore and always finds plenty to keep him happy. There is such a huge variety of foods, that unless you really only like steak and potatoes, I think everyone could find something to their liking. Don't remember if there are traditional mashed potatoes, but there is pap(?), a white cornmeal mash that looks like mashed potatoes and fufu(?), incredibly delicious mashed sweet potatoes. :p

And if you find that you're not wild about most of the entrees and sides, just do what I do at most traditional buffets--make up for it at the dessert table!

I was sadly dissappointed in Bomas. I didn't find too many dishes that weren't VERY American! They serve Tusker beer, about the only truly African thing there!

So, if you want American....you have nothing to worry about.

There are plenty of good choices there and that certainly includes many non-American dishes. Try to potatoes with afritude, they are great! :thumbsup2

so should I cancel Whispering Canyon or Chef Mickeys for Boma? Never been to Whispering Canyon, do don't know what food is like.

I would not cancel Whispering Canyon for Boma, we ate at both of these restaurants in March and really liked both, but the wait at Boma even with an ADR was ridiculus...almost an hour, and we had a 7:40pm ADR. I liked Whispering Canyon better because they sat us right away (we showed up 15 minutes early), the food was great, our server was fabulous and very interactive with both DH and I, but especially with the kids...they loved it. :woohoo:

Boma is a good restuarant, we enjoyed the food and the variety, we tried some African dishes that were really good and others that were not so good, but we were adventurous, the kids however really did not enjoy this restaurant, and it was getting late for a 5, 8, and 10 year old to be eating.

Have fun! :yay:

I am a very picky eater but DH is not. We went to Boma and May and will not be going back. They have things like chicken tenders for picky eaters. I tried a couple of different things and so did DH. However nothing was great, I think I would call it fair. In fact DH who eats anything, left hungary and said we are never coming back here to eat.

The food did not have a good taste to it. Also everything was overdone and the prime rib was very fatty.

We went to WCC and I cannot wait to go back. I would not cancel that ADR for Boma.

I know I read the reviews both good and bad, but I wanted to try places myself. So please do not make your decision based soley on reviews, because everyones idea of great dining is different!
