Boma or not..??

My Mum and I are visiting Disney in January for a week-long stay.
We are planning to spend a day in Animal Kingdom (January 12th to be specific) and decided to leave the park to go to Boma at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for an early dinner and to have a little wander around the hotel. We figured we would return to the park for extra magic hours (5-8pm) afterwards.
I have made an ADR at Boma for 4.45pm. (early for dinner I know, but I didn't want to leave it till 7).
BUT..
I am wondering whether this is really worth doing or if we should just stay in the park and make a reservation at Tusker House instead? Is it going to take too long to get to the AKL and back again?

I'd really appreciate some advice!

Boma is one of my fave places. It has become a little more Americanized than it used to be, but still has great flavors of Africa. There is a large variety so there will be familiar items for those who are not adventurous eaters and then a variety of items to try something new. The mullagatony (misp) soup is awesome. Even when we are not going to Disney, we stop in anytime we are in the Orlando area.

Are you planning to spend the entire day @ AK? <---That's a long day
I might be more tempted to start the day at another park or have a sleep-in day at the resort,take a late lunch @ Tusker House and then have a lite supper DTD
Boma is one of my fav. restaurants, but I wouldn't sacrifice EMH @ AK to eat there because with a 4:45 reservation you probably would be lucky to get to the park by 6:30 and that wouldn't leave you much time

We love Boma and it is a must do for us every trip...the only problem I see you might have is that we are usually so full after we just want to go back to our room and lay down
AKL is very close to AK only about a 5 min bus ride but you may want to consider trying to get a later time because you will probably be tired after a whole day at AK and then that great dinner!
