We are going to spend the day at AK and then after it closes we wanted a nice dinner to round out the experience. I was considering Boma since it was at the AKL and we could see the safaris from the lobby and get that AK feel. But I am worried about people's reports of Boma...

Should we consider something like Kona Cafe instead? I know its at the Polynesian and wont really "continue" the feeling.

Any other suggestions for that evenings dinner experience?

Thanks in advance!

:welcome: to the DIS! We're probably in the minority, but we didn't like Boma. Never been to Kona, but FWIW, we love Ohana! And we've heard nothing but good things about Kona, also.

We ate at both Kona and Boma's one year...first time for each and Boma's became our favorite! Every year that we visit we always make an ADR for Boma's! Absolutely wonderful food!!!

Boma is a destination. Kona is the secondary restaurant at Poly with more of a "coffee shop" feel to it. I love both resorts but I think Boma is more special than Kona.

I definitely agree. Kona is a place that I would go to for dinner if I didn't feel like leaving the hotel. Boma has a wide selection of interesting food. The soups are wonderful as are the salads. The entrees are good too. Different from what most of us can find at home. That is what appeals to me. Desserts? I am not crazy about buffet desserts. They are all too sweet and taste the same.

We had dinner at Boma (and stayed at the lodge) and it was by far our BEST meal at disney. So i would totally recommend it. However we've never eaten at the Kona Cafe so i can't compare them for you.

Boma for dinner and Kona for breakfast. We were not so thrilled with Kona's dinner though we enjoy lunch and breakfast there.

I think you'll be fine either way :)

Boma was my DH's favorite meal of our trip, Kona was mine. I personally did not feel that Kona was like a coffee shop at all. It was by far the smallest restaurant we dined in and my entree was out of this world. I enjoyed the decor and just loved it. Boma on the other hand is huge and was quite noisy. Very pretty but I can't say personally I would view it as a destination, just a big loud cool buffet restaurant.

All that said, Boma is great if you have adventuresome eaters. If not, Kona may well be a better bet. You can check out my dining review of both, here,

We did Boma after our AK day and it was nice to carry that theme through, I'd do the Poly after a MK or resort day, it's a long bus ride if you are hungry! lol.

Boma is our favorite.

I think you answered your own question.

I've been to both and enjoy both. But I'd say that, from what you say in your post, Boma would be the way to go on this occasion!

I've not been to either but the menu at Boma seems a little "exotic" for my family & was never a consideration. We are eating at Kona on our upcoming trip.

:)

Funny you should post this . . . I am struggling with the same decision myself! LOL! I'm anxious to hear what everyone has to say.

Go to Boma! Plan to arrive a few minutes early or allow time to wander out the back of the lobby to wind around the path for some animal viewing. It does continue the feel.

I like both Kona and Boma - don't think you would go wrong with either one as far as food, but theming is hugely different.

We took two couples to Boma with us last time. Out of the six of us, DH & I are willing to try anything, one was nervous, two were meat & potato type, and one was vegetarian. Everyone thought it was a good meal and were able to find things they very much liked. I really liked some of the "new" flavors and it will be a place we return to.

I love BOMA. The menu may seem exotic but it really isn't that strange. I have eaten at a lot of African restaurants and BOMA is probably the least exotic I have been to. The food isn't overly spiced and a lot of the preparation is toned down for the American palate. There is also plenty of "normal" food for kids or picky adults.

Anyone who likes Lebanese food will find BOMA similar.

Definately Boma!! Boma has become my husband's favorite restaurant. The last time we were there he even got recipes for some of the dishes. It is a bit loud and can get crowded. Not the best place for a romantic meal. The food really is amazing.

Thank you to all who confirmed my desire to go to AKL after a day at Animal Kingdom and eat at Boma! I got my ressies, now I am ready to go to Disney!!
