Boma or Kona Cafe?

Trying to decide between a Boma and Kona Cafe during our Oct trip. We are a group of 8 (6 adults, 3 y/o, 2 y/o). No one is a picky eater. Both kids will eat anything and are used to having a wide variety of foods. We are on the dining plan so prices don't really matter.

We are touring AK during the day. This will be a dinner reservation (hopefully around 5 pm). We do not have plans for the evening, but have discussed going to DTD or pony rides/campfire at Fort Wilderness or going to MK.

So... Boma or Kona... and why!

Thanks!

I say Kona. Haven't eaten there but every time we go by it to Ohana I say, we have to try it next time. LOL

Have always eyed that teriyaki steak for dinner and the macadamia nut/pineapple pancakes...oh, so want breakfast.
So that is my choice.

We ate at Boma and it wasn't for us. Too much cinnamon and vanilla in everything. I am not picky but to have my meat taste like a holiday dessert....nope, that isn't for me.

After conquering AK, we always go to Boma for dinner around 6:15 - 6:30. This gives us time to meander out after the parade, doing some character interaction on the way out. Then we head over to AKL and sit out back watching the animals on the savannah. It is relaxing and peaceful. (Check out the girraffe viewing area as well). And thefood at Boma is great (and buffet style)! Always a great time!

I know it's exceptionally popular but we didn't rate Boma. We felt rushed by our server and DF couldn't get anyone to talk him through the veggie options. Plus it was so chaotic and busy that we couldn't relax.

Bear in mind we went in September which isn't a busy month - the place was packed! Also this meant that quite a few things ran out and people were hovering for more food.

Also I know people rave about the desserts but when we were there most seemed to have alcohol in which I don't especially like the taste of. Although maybe the ones I would have liked had run out? Who knows, we gave up after 25 minutes and left :(

We haven't tried Kona yet but we have an ADR booked for our next trip so I would say go for Kona of those 2.

Alternatively if you are going to Fort Wilderness how about going to Trails End Restaurant? We went there and it was the complete opposite of Boma - really laid back and not busy, with a great variety of food - I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it :)

Although it would be easier for you to go to Boma since you will be at AK already....I agree with Adjalu about Kona. I'd recommend this place over Boma. I also dont like cinamon on everything, i really dont like my meat to be sweatened. You should really look at the menu at both places and decide that way.

It depends on what you are looking for. Boma is a buffet vs. Kona which is a sit down restaurant. The food varies greatly. You also have to consider when your ADR is which place is easier to get to.

If its after the park closes - then I would shoot for Kona - but if you are up for an adventure in food sampling - try Boma.

I have eaten in both places, and I would choose Kona.

Kona has exceptional food, and the Kilauea torte is one of my favorite deserts at WDW....chocolate cake with hot chocolate/fudge in the center. :thumbsup2

Boma hands down. We stayed at the Poly twice, and once on the DDP, so we have had the breakfast, lunch and dinner offerings at Kona. IMHO, it's a bit over-rated. The service was also at the bottom end of the scale compared with all the other Disney dining venues we visited.

Why Boma? Adventuresome food, great spice mixes, healthy options (lentils, green veggies, etc.) and too-die-for desserts.

Boma over Kona for me. Ate at both places last trip and we'd go back to Boma no questions asked, back to Kona if there wasn't a better option. It's not that Kona was bad, but it's nothing spectacular. Also, it's set up so you're practically sitting in the lobby so people waiting for their table stand there and watch you eat. Boma has good food, short trip from AK, and I like to tour the Lodge after dinner to walk off a bit of my meal.

I agree with most post that The Boma is the choice of the two. Thier was more choices at Boma as it is a buffet and thier was a wide range of flavors. Some very memorable. Both for kids and adults and the atmosphere is nicer. You also have the Lodge's atmosphere. I found items that I never would have tried if it wasn't there. The deserts were nice also. My daughter had to have explained to her that the different tasting pineapple desrt was actually mango. We are going back this October. Either way they are both good. It will be a no loose choice.

We've eaten at both and my choice would be Boma. There are alot of different things on the buffet to try as well as ordinary American food :thumbsup2. We always got the prime rib at Kona, but since they took that off the menu, we haven't been back; but Boma is always on our list every trip :goodvibes.
