We are wanting to try some new dining places on our next trip. We tend to stick to the same ones on our yearly trip. Our trip this year is in October & will be shorter than previous ones. The whole trip will be diferent so we decided this is a great time to try something new. We are on the deluxe dining plan. Usually on our AK day, we have bredakfast at the resort, lunch at Tusker House, then dinner at the resort, usually CS. I was thinking about Yaki & Yeti for lunch then heading over to AKL for dinner. I'm trying to decide between Jiko & Boma. It will be me, DH, DD(17), & DS(15). We aren't too picky & like a variety of things. Which would you choose?

I have never eaten at Boma( YET)

I LOVED Jiko. LOVED it.

pretty sure you cannot go wrong.. you just need to decide whether you want buffet, or table service.

I've dined at both many times. Jiko is more upscale in a quiet atmosphere. The appetizers are unique; the entrees are good but not all that unusual.

Boma is noisy, chaotic buffet but there are many adventurous dishes that you are not likely to find anywhere else.

Both are good; it just depends on what you are looking for.

If I was at another resort I would not make a special trip to Boma but I would make a special trip to Jiko. We loved Jiko!

I've eaten at both numerous times, and hands down, Jiko would win between the two. It's fabulous!

On deluxe dp, does Jiko use 2 credits?

They are both wonderful. Jiko is naturally more special. Boma is indeed a buffet though a higher level one. You can avoid crowds by choosing your time judiciously. The true question is do you want a variety of interesting foods or a singular quality service experience?

PS--Neither choice will be regretted!:goodvibes

Both are great and Jiko happens to be one of our favorites. However, the 2 are like apples and oranges. One is signature, one is buffet. One is quiet and relaxing, the other is loud and hectic (as most buffets are). One is 2 TS credits, the other is 1 TS credit. One is more upscale in food and service, the other is a buffet for the more adventurous tastes. One takes about 2 hours for a full meal, the other takes about 45 minutes if you take your time. One you may feel out of place wearing the same thing you wore at AK, the other won't make you feel out of place showing up right from AK.

If it came down to just food and atmosphere Jiko all the way. If you are looking for a quality meal (by buffet standards) without taking up too much time Boma will be a nice choice, as long as your family are not picky eaters (lots of picky eaters tend to not be big fans of Boma).

Please note that we are personally not crazy about dessert choices at Jiko abd usually head to DTD for dessert at Ghirardelli's for dessert.:thumbsup2

Boma is a chaotic, noisy buffet. The food is pretty good though.

Jiko is a signature, so the ambiance is more adult and upscale. The food is excellent.

I personally prefer Jiko, but it's not really comparing apples to apples here. So I would pick based on what kind of dining experience you want.

I think I can't go wrong with either choice. I think the kids might enjoy Boma the most because they love buffets. I was leaning toward Jiko

Boma is a typical buffet with some African flare. It wasn't very good in our opinion. The meat was dry, the tables were tight, and our wait staff wasn't great. It was chaotic and we won't be going back.

Jikos was AMAZING! One of the best signatures we've been too. (I'd say it ties with flying fish for us.) The restaurant is beautiful and the service was great. Food was fantastic as well.

We travel with a 4 and 2 year old so we didn't find Jiko's to be too stuffy at all.

Yes, Jiko uses 2 credits, but it is worth it. My dds (8,5) ate the food just fine. The filet was excellent. Boma is good but Jiko is way better.
