We are doing a grand gathering at Thanksgiving this year. I am trying to get a preliminary schedule of parks and restaurants. We will be staying Wed-Tues. I was originally thinking of staying away from the parks on Thanksgiving b/c I am so worried about crowds. Then, I saw recommendation of AK on Thanksgiving and whenever we go to AK we do Boma for dinner. We LOVE Boma, but I didn't know if they focus on traditional thanksgiving food that day and we will miss out on the wonderful variety and flavors they normally have. What are people's input for thanksgiving and balancing going to the parks with a nice meal? Some of my group want traditional food and some would like something different. Originally I was thinking 1900 Park Fare, but I wasn't going to do a park. It is so hard not to do a park on the first day and I would rather save the break for in the middle. Your experiences with parks, Boma, and other restaurants for Thanksgiving would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hi!

I was there over Thanksgiving week last year. I heard a lot of people say good things about their meal at Bomas for Thanksgiving. A lot of the restaurants offer the same food, but one place I will never, ever go back to is Citricos (I like the restaurant, but on Thanksigiving, the pre fixed menu was not good).

As for avoiding the parks, the parks were pretty much empty on Thanksgiving day. Friday and the rest of the weekend is another story. One lesson I learned early on, thanks to my teens, is that after about 6:00pm, the parks empty out, They are open until midnight/1:00am during that week. We all tried for naps/pool during the day and hit the parks at night. We never waited more than 2 minutes for any ride after dark at MK. Except for Soarin, we got onto everything quickly at Epcot too. We did go to DHS/AK during the day as they werent open as late. They were crowded the weekend after Thanksgiving. If I were to go again at this time, I would squeeze in these parks before Friday then got to MK/Epcot after Friday, at night.
Hope this helps.

Sunday afternoon after Thanksgiving gets pretty quiet with a lot of locals and others going home. Monday and Tuesday are really quiet. They only days you have to worry about the crowds are Fri/Sat/Sun. If you are taking a "break" day, I would choose one of those.

We've been there for Thanksgiving the past two years. We stay Mon-Mon.

I've also heard good things about Boma on Thanksgiving. I would guess they'd offer both the traditional menu as well as some of their popular items.

Both years, we've avoided parks on Thanksgiving Day.

The only thing I can really recommend is to AVOID Epcot the day after. All of their xmas festivities begin and it's just a mob scene! We ate dinner then had to leave. It was just too crowded to even walk around WS. Avoid it at all costs!

The holiday decorations are beautiful! That's my favorite part of going during Thanksgiving! :goodvibes

Yeah! I am not the only one who is planning for Thanksgiving also! I too was wondering what is the best restaurant for Thanksgiving? All of the menu's look similar so I am wondering is it worth it to pay the extra for California Grill or Narcossees when it is the same menu as Grand Floridian Cafe or Boma? Can anyone share their Thanksgiving dining experiences??

Does anyone know for sure if Boma still has their ethnic food on the buffet at Thanksgiving? I don't want to go to Boma and just have turkey. I love all their different and ethnic flavors. Anyone been there on Thanksgiving?

My family ate at Boma's this past Thanksgiving. They had the typical variety of items and a station with carved turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. The gravy served at boma didn't look very good; DH snubbed it at first. We both agreed it was the best gravy we ever had :thumbsup2 ; I am kind if mad that I didn't ask for the recipe.

If you decide to eat at Boma's on Thanksgiving, you won't be disssappointed; I left there stuffed and pleased with the food choices.

Just wondering if there are others who have eaten at Boma for Thanksgiving. I love the ethnicity of Boma's food, but there are some in my party who want turkey. Does Boma offer their traditional menu in addition to turkey? I am trying to get our park days settled and we always do Boma on our AK day.

We ate at Boma for TG dinner 2007 and Xmas dinner in 06 and loved it both times. There was traditional TG food - turkey, cornbread stuffing, mash, yams, pumpkin tartlets etc as well as all the traditional Boma foods (although I'm sure the traditional Boma food is scaled down to fit some of the TG food on the buffet - we never noticed as all our faves were present).
:)

Last Thanksgiving my family and I did Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch and Boma for dinner. We all agreed that the next time we were in WDW for Thanksgiving to forget LTT and simply do dinner at Boma. The entrees there were much better quality and we found the meal more enjoyable. We've always been pleased with Boma and haven't been disappointed yet. :thumbsup2

To dannewi : Yes. Boma was a 1 TS credit meal. The DDP can be a pretty good deal during the holidays as most buffets are at "holiday" pricing.
