hmm...okie...not to sound non-adventurous here, but my DGF and myself arent the most exotic of eaters, and tho ive heard great things about both these restaurants, im worried we wont like the food or be able to find anything that appeals to us. ive looked at the menus over at debs site, and im still torn...anybody else had this problem, or am i just completely irrational??

Just completely irrational. Seriously, Boma has a very large and assorted buffet. Some of the foods are "normal" and some might be considered "adventurous" by some. Unless you have severe allergies there is nothing that can harm you. The neat thing is on items you are not sure of you can take very small portions and you do not have to finish them if you don't like them.

And then there are the desserts...

We just got back last night and before I left reading all the reviews I was so confused on BOMA. I almost canceled my ressie. IT WAS THE BEST MEAL WE EVER HAD! My DH and I loved it. There is not a lot of weird food. The soups were wonderful. I liked everything I tried and so did my DH. This would be tops on our list to go back to next trip!

MY DD and DS are not adventurous eater and they love Boma. I would go and try it you will find some thing there to eat the food my be a little spicy at times but it is a must for our family every trip. :earboy2:

Boma's Boma's Boma's
We have taken several " non-adventurous" folks to Boma's and they have all loved it. The quality of the food here is much better than O'hana's. I would only go to Ohana's if you have your heart set on doing the coconut race.

We agree! Our last visit to O'hana was nothing special (food was very dry), but we love BOMA!

I would agree with all that Boma is really top notch, our family loves it. We, however, are really adventurous eaters. I would have to think that if your planning on sticking with the chicken fingers and mac and cheese you might be happier at a buffet like chef mickey's where american food is the rule, not the exception.

Okay....I was torn too on the last trip....so I wound up doing both. And, again doing both again this year. I am not a picky eater, but then again, I'm a picky eater...make sense? How about this, I'll try it once if it looks visually appealing, but after that one time, that's it if I don't like it. Anyway, back to what I'd say. They both have their pros and cons.

Boma: Pro.....Buffet...many different choices....childrens section if after all the food you try you don't like, you can go for that pod.....the desserts (wow :earseek: ). Con....buffet....many choices....childrens section if you don't like anything.

O'hana's....Pro....Family Buffett (you don't have to get up) The lazy susan in the middle of the table's wonderful food.....meat on a skewer, brought to you hot and ready to eat....great view of the castle....wonderful atmosphere....
Con....The lazy susan in the middle of the table's food gets cold....meat on the skewer can be dry sometimes.....if you are not into watching kids games, or don't have children and don't want to be bothered with them, make sure they sit you far off the beaten path. (Please don't flame me, but it was just DBF and myself, and they put us near the walkway. I like children, he has a daughter and likes children, but we did not enjoy children leading coconuts around the room with broom sticks and the coconuts found their way under the table and we got a few good whacks on our legs for those trying to get their coconuts. The CM did apologize after they passed and asked which one was ours. The look on her face when we said we didn't have any, she apologized again, and thanked us for being good sports).

Now, my BF is an adventurous eater. He loves Boma's and he LUV's Ohana's (huge shrimp fan). I told him to pick one, and he pitched a fit. Why couldn't we have both...blah blah blah....(there for a minute I realized I do have a child.. :rotfl: ) So we are doing both. I'm not going to pick one over the other for you. Where I might have a fantastic time...you might have a poopy time. where I might have a poopy time.....you will have a fantastic time. Go with your gut....do you want poly atmosphere or African atmosphere? Do you want many many choices, or 5 appertifs, 3 sauces, 4 meats, and a carmel dessert (if they still do that!). No matter where you choose, enjoy it, your at WDW!!!!

I'm long winded I know......

Have a great time! Let us know what you pick!!!

I am a pretty bland eater too. We stayed at the AKL last year and of course ate at Boma's a couple of times. Their breakfast is out of this world and worth traveling to the resort for even if you are not staying there. Dinner, however, was not a big hit with me or my wife (who generally is an adventurous eater). As many of the posters indicated, there was a great selection and there was a few non-spicy/african type meals. But not many. I was really looking forward to the soups, but just found them too spicy for me and didn't enjoy most of the other african dishes. Overall, I thought the restaurant was great, but the food was just not for me.

Ohana, on the otherhand, is a must hit every trip. Sometimes I think it is the reason we stay at the Poly. I always leave full and plus have a good time there. The waiters are always top notch and the atmosphere is fun. Plus, your food comes to you, as opposed to a buffet (important if you have little ones to keep under control).

Anyway, just wanted to give you at least one solid vote for Ohana from a fellow bland eater. If you are staying at the AKL, definitely try Boma. If you have to travel, I would choose Ohana (unless I planned to walk the resort and take in the animals on the savanahs).

thanks for all the opinions guys!! its so hard to make some of these decisions, and its just nice to have some feedback from people with the experience!! this will be my DGF's 1st trip to the world, and its definitely something shes doing cause i was so adamant we go there, and im trying so hard to make sure everything ends up perfect!! lol...right now we do have an adr at ohanas but i had a couple of other ones we didnt get and i have read great things about bomas....oh my the choices!! lol....but im so grateful for the free dining and the chance to make all these choices!! :bounce: thanks again for everybodys suggestions/opinions, they really mean a lot!! :goodvibes have i mentioned how much i love this board??
