I was originally planning to have my welcome/rehearsal dinner at Ohana like many other brides have. But then yesterday I was thinking about changing it to Boma. Has anyone had their rehearsal or welcome dinner at Boma? How did it turn out? Did your guests enjoy it?

I'm just still not sure where to have it. TIA!

Hi!

I think Boma is a great restaurant and a wonderful choice for a welcome/rehearsal dinner.

However, I think that one of the reasons why so many people choose 'Ohana is that it's easy to get to. You can get there from Epcot or MK easily, and from any resort, you just have to take a bus to MK and then switch to the monorail. If you have guests that are not planning on visiting the parks, it will be difficult for them to get to the AKL (they'll have to take 2 buses, or a taxi). However, if your guests will be renting cars, or if they will all be visiting the parks, I think Boma is a great choice! There's something for everyone there!

Actually, one of the reasons I thought Boma would be better is because the majority of the guests are staying at AKL. I figure transportation would be about the same either way - bus to bus or bus to monorail. I just haven't heard of many people having their welcome/rehearsal dinners here and was wondering what their experience was. We will be having about 40 people there so I didn't know if that was the better choice or to just go to Ohana where they bring the food to you.

We're currently thinking about Boma too :)
Just FYI, I talked to the manager and they limit your time to the first seating to make sure that you are seated close by to each other.
And there's a special # you have to call for group above 40 people I think...
Oh you can use 2 DDE cards if you have them for your group.
I asked the manager if we could use them for my group of 20 and the manager said no problem.

In that case I think you'd be better off with Boma! The only reason it's easier to do bus-to-monorail is because I think the monorails run more quickly and efficiently. Going from hotel to hotel can easily take over an hour via the buses.

It shouldn't be a big issue of getting up to get the food vs having the food brought to you. The only other question I would ask is if you will have a lot of picky, or non-adventurous eaters. Of course we know that the food at Boma is fantastic for everyone, but -- I brought my midwestern family to Jiko, and one of the snide remarks that was made was, "This is certainly exotic. Do they have zebra on the menu?"

Oh wow, thanks so much for the info! Do you happen to have the number I will need to call? I will definitely be putting my DDE card to use for this meal ;).

You should have told them: Yes, the zebra come right off the Savannah!

Some are picky some are not, but I just can't please everyone. I just thought Boma would be a nice change since we go to Ohana almost every trip. I've been to Boma once and I liked it very much, but it will be everyone else's first time. Hey in the end - who is going to complain about a free meal right? :goodvibes

Let's see... go to this # 407-938-4722 this goes directly to Boma's podium.
Then ask to be connected to Shelly, she does group booking.

If that doesn't work call this #: Group ressie #: 407-939-7707
That # is for group ressie for all restaurants.
BUT keep in mind I only did 27 people... since yours is 40 they might direct you to a different #.

Good luck! :)

We are going to do Boma for our rehearsal dinner too. We had thought about Ohana too but with all the children's activities at Ohana we decided that Boma was a better choice since we will have 8 adults. Plus it is something different to try especially with folks who haven't been to Disney before or for a while like our family.

I think that is a GREAT choice! I have never done an event there, but the food is great there, and FABULOUS at Jiko. Yum, Yum, Yum!

we aren't doing Boma before the wedding ( our rehearsal meal is at Le Cellier ) but we are taking everyone ( we have only got a small party - there will only be 8 of us ) to Boma on our last night at Disney for a thank you meal. We love Boma and it has been our traditional goodbye meal for our last few Disney visits. I guess we really just want to "show off" the Animal Kingdom lodge because their whole set up is stunning and jaw dropping the first time you see it.
Oh and the foods not bad either! .....a small understatement, I have never been so stuffed in my life, everything looks so good you just have to try it all!

I think I'm going to have the dinner ar Boma. I think it will be fun for my guests to try something different.

maddiesmum03 - Le Cellier is a great choice! I haven't been to Le Cellier yet, but I really want to try it. I think I'm going to make an adr for our disneymoon. I couldn't have the dinner in one of the parks because not everyone will have a park ticket that day. So I had to go with one of the hotel restaurants.

Yes, we did Le Cellier before, for DH2B's 40th Birthday. It was a great meal - the Pretzel bread is to die for! and the staff made us feel really special - they even gave us a postcard wishing him a happy birthday and inviting us to use the special viewing area for illuminations ( Italy - there were only a handful of us in there and it was a great view) since then our daughter has always called illuminations "daddys birthday fireworks" ! I'm sure they would sprinkle plenty of pixie dust your way once they know you're a disney bride!:goodvibes

I'm glad you had such a good experience at Le Cellier! I hear great things about that pretzel bread :thumbsup2. I'm going to try to add that to my menu for my reception. I can't wait!
