Boma for picky eaters..?

We are staying at AKV and have 1 more dinner to reserve and would like to be able to eat at resort and eat at bomas... we are somewhat picky eaters but the menu says african/american fare. Are there alot of choices for american food and for kids..?

There is a whole "kids pod" with chicken strips, mac and cheese and spaghetti with or without sauce. Adults can eat from that, too.

The mac n cheese there is actually quite good I thought.

Also, don't be scared away by "african" food it's not like you'll find grilled
ant-eater served with a scorpion sauce !

the favors are mild and tend toward sweet - Everything is recognizable to most people...I'm thinking you'd enjoy it!

Besides what's on the kids' section, in the "adults" section there's a whole host of fresh cut-up fruit, salads, a pretty plain (roasted?) chicken, and whatever the carved beef is, etc. My daughter's not at all adventurous, and eats from a combination of the kids' stuff and the more plainly prepared adult fare. Never trouble to find something for her to eat. I think picky kids/adults could find a whole host of things to eat.

Oh, and the most important part--dessert! There are usually plain brownies and/or plain chocolate chip cookies, besides the more "elaborate" desserts, so you'll find something there, too.

If you are picky eaters, then Boma may not be your best choice. The majority of the foods there have very different tastes from what you may be used to. Yes, it is possible to find things that you will eat, but why go to a place that will (in your case) have limited appeal when there are so many other options?

Here is our experience with Boma.

Everyone said how wonderful it was, to expect it to be spicey. Well I like spicey and am not picky, but I found out real quick spicey isn't always "hot".

The spices that they cook with are sweet in nature. Spices like cinnamon, vanilla and fruit flavors are in EVERYTHING. We sampled every dish trying to find something that didn't have a sweet tone to it and found none. Except for the kids station...mac/cheese, chicken nuggets.

The meats were rubbed with it, it was in all the side dishes and even the soups were sweet. I felt like I was eating a holiday dessert for dinner.
By the time we were done we were not satisfied and ate CS about an hour later.

It was a huge disappointment for us. The food wasn't bad, just not what we like. When I want to eat dessert I do so, but I want my beef and potatoes to taste like so, not dessert.

A friend of mine had been before us and raved about it. I was so unsure about going. Turns out it was some of the best food of the trip, perhaps any of them. I don't think the flavors were weird- but the combinations were unexpected & fun. I can't wait to go back to tell you the truth!

In other words, if you want to try it, go!!! It's a buffet, there's got to be something someone who is fussy about their food choices will eat & not leave hungry. The only way you will know that it works for you is to do it yourself. If you don't like it, you won't have to go back again.

Great example of making up your own mind as to if you like something or not.
You'll never know unless you try something new to you!

We have one very picky eater in our family and it turns out Boma is now one of his favorite places to eat at Disney . There is plenty of variety to choose from, IMO, to satisfy everyone's taste . I agree with the pp that you won't know if you like it until you try it .

We enjoyed it very much, there is a variety of soups and salads as well as several different types of meat. If you want to be adventurous you can try something new. My kids love this restaurant and want to go each trip.

Boma is one of our favourites at WDW, although I was initially disappointed to find out that none of the dishes were served with scorpion sauce.
